Ždírec nad Doubravou lies at the crossroads of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, the Železné hory and the Žďárské vrchy. There are several different options to consider when planning your visit: a nature trail and a cycling route, the view from the old water tower, and art and architectural history. First consider whether hiking, cycling, visiting the viewpoint or exploring historic cultural sites will shape your stay. This will help you choose accommodation that suits your interests.

Routes and viewpoints

The Ranské polesí nature trail has eight stops and is just under 17.5 kilometres long. The town of Ždírec nad Doubravou opened this circular nature trail in cooperation with the market town of Krucemburk and the Forest Cooperative of the Municipalities of Přibyslav. The number of stops and the route length offer two different points of reference: one describes the trail’s layout, the other its overall length. Check the route details before setting out.

Another option is the 39-kilometre cycling loop through Podoubraví, which passes through Ždírec nad Doubravou. The two routes differ in type and length: the cycling loop is 39 kilometres long, while the nature trail has eight stops over just under 17.5 kilometres. If you are deciding between hiking and cycling, you can take both figures into account when choosing your trip.

The viewpoint on the old water tower was completed in 2013 at a height of 570 metres. It is intended to offer passing tourists and local residents places to sit and enjoy a view of the town. This sets the viewpoint apart from the routes: its focus is the intended view of the town and the seating, not a distance to cover. If you would rather not base your choice solely on routes, you can consider the viewpoint as a destination in its own right.

Art and architectural history

The Doubravka Gallery in Ždírec nad Doubravou is part of the town’s municipal cultural institution. Its permanent exhibition comprises twelve paintings donated by Norbert Hanč in 2010. Art lovers can plan a visit to the gallery as a separate activity alongside routes and viewpoints. As information about the collection may be updated, check what is currently on display before visiting.

The listed cultural monuments in Horní Studenec include the Church of St. Wenceslas, the cemetery wall and the wooden bell tower. The single-nave Gothic church was built around 1350; single-nave means that it has one nave. The chateau in Nový Studenec is a Renaissance building dating from 1612. These buildings offer different architectural styles and dates to compare: the Gothic church, whose construction date is approximate, and the chateau, which dates from 1612.

At the Museum of Household Items in Horní Studenec, you can arrange your visit and a viewing of the exhibits by phone with Mr Jirásek on 728 569 153. It is recommended that you make arrangements in advance; the phone number and contact details may change. Check the information beforehand if you are planning a visit.
