Kunratice brings together a variety of themes for an exploration trip: Nolden Pond and its distinctive plant life, religious and historical memorial sites, and tourist routes. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Kunratice, you can first decide which focus best suits your travel interests. The following places and activities can be considered as separate reasons to visit rather than combined into a single itinerary.

Nolden Pond: Natural Monument and Round-leaved Sundew

Nolden Pond is designated as a natural monument in the cadastral area of Kunratice u České Kamenice; the designation has been in effect since 1 April 2004. In the Lusatian Mountains, it is the richest site for the specially protected round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia). The pond is surrounded by natural shoreline vegetation, as well as bog, sedge, alder and bog spruce stands. This brings together two aspects of the nature theme: a specially protected plant species and the different types of vegetation around the water. It is a specific point of interest for planning your trip if you are interested in rare plants or bog landscapes.

View the tourist circular trail on the map

The tourist circular trail around Kunratice opened in 2021. The municipality’s current trail page links to an interactive map with descriptions of individual stops. You can zoom in and move around the map, and preview the trail. The texts explain individual stops, while the map view gives an overview of the trail. You can first explore the themes of the stops or use the map to view the route as a whole.

Bauer Chapel and Zeckert Cross

The Bauer Chapel is a religious landmark beside a road above Kunratice. The new chapel was built in 2024; a chapel had already stood at the same site since 1782. The historical connection therefore relates to the chapel’s location and dates back considerably further than the new building. The Zeckert Cross tells a different story, tied to an individual: it commemorates Christian Zeckert, the local judge of Studený, who died there in 1735 after falling from his horse. The restored cross is open to visitors. While the Bauer Chapel evokes the history of a religious site, the cross focuses on the remembrance of a specific person.

Circular trail or cycling tour?

The municipality has an interactive map for the tourist circular trail. A separate option is the cycling tour from Česká Kamenice to Jetřichovice and back, which passes through Kunratice. The two options cover different areas: the circular trail runs around Kunratice, while the cycling tour connects the named places and passes through Kunratice. If you enjoy cycling, you can consider this tour as a reason for your trip; for other interests, Nolden Pond and the memorial sites offer relevant themes.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Kunratice, it helps to decide in advance: should your trip focus mainly on nature, local history or cycling? This makes it easier to choose a focus for your stay without combining the individual themes into a single route.
