Bohutice brings together religious cultural sites, a nature trail, a protected natural monument and seasonal food and drink events. There are several ways to plan your visit: cultural attractions can be explored independently of festival dates, while wine and apricot activities take place at specific times of year.

Stations of the Cross, Castle and Nature Trail

The Bohutice Stations of the Cross is a cultural monument. Its 54 life-size wooden statues depict the final journey of Jesus Christ. Their number and scale make the figures an ensemble rather than a single memorial. In the courtyard of Bohutice Castle, there is also a fountain with a statue of Saint Florian dating from 1720. Cultural attractions here therefore include both a religious cycle of figures and a fountain with a dated statue of a saint.

The Antonín Prášek Nature Trail connects several named sites. It opened in 2011, starts at the castle and ends at the statue of Saint Wenceslas above the cemetery. Along the way, it passes the church, the monument to Father Prášek and the Lourdes Grotto before reaching the cemetery. Signposts and information boards are part of the route infrastructure; as these may change, check the current route before your visit. The nature trail links the sites mentioned along a route, while the Stations of the Cross and the castle fountain are cultural attractions in their own right.

Natural Monument and Vineyards

U Michálka is a protected natural monument in Bohutice, with steppe and rocky habitats. These specific habitat types complement the religious and historical cultural attractions. Another landmark in the landscape is the statue of Saint Michael: it stands on the summit of a granite hill, was erected in 1721 and watches over the vineyards. Those comparing natural and landscape attractions will find named steppe and rocky habitats on the one hand, and a dated statue of a saint above the vineyards on the other.

Wine and Apricots at Different Times of Year

The Bohutický košt takes place every year on the last Saturday in April and usually features up to 500 wine tastings. Since the event is held on the last Saturday of the month, the exact date varies. Check the event date if you want to plan your trip around it.

The Bohutice Summer Apricot Carnival takes place annually at the turn of July and August. The programme includes tastings of apricot jam and apricot brandy. The locally grown apricot variety is also a distinct topic: pomologically, it was assessed as unique and as having no previous pomological designation. “Abricot Sucre de Bohutice – Bohutická meruňka” was recommended as its international designation.

The first weekend in October is when the Podzimní bohutické slavnosti features young wine, butchery specialities, music, activities for children and demonstrations of traditional crafts. The seasonal events thus differ considerably: wine takes centre stage in April, tastings of apricot products take place at the turn of August, and young wine, food and crafts feature in early October. If you want to plan your travel dates around a festival, check the exact date in advance.
