Šaratice can be explored through three specific themes: the architectural history of St. Nicholas Church, the area around Kopeček and the local history of Šaratica water. For a stay, these themes offer different perspectives on culture, local history and landscape. Dated events from summer 2026 add concrete examples of activities and events.
St. Nicholas Church and the townscape
St. Nicholas Church was built in 1903 in the Neo-Romanesque style on the site of a small Gothic church. It was consecrated on 4 August 1903. The year of construction and the date of consecration refer to different milestones: the first dates the building’s construction, the second its consecration. The church tower is 45 metres high, giving the building a clear measure of scale. Neo-Romanesque refers to a later revival of Romanesque forms; the Gothic predecessor church marks an earlier building phase at the same site. Another local point of interest is Osmičkové náměstí in Šaratice, described as the only square of its kind in Czechia.
Kopeček and the landscape
Kopeček lies east of Šaratice on a gentle slope between the Šaratice–Hrušky and Šaratice–Milešovice roads. The hill is about five metres high; on its northeastern side, it is bounded by a ditch and an embankment. Compared with the 45-metre-high church tower, it represents a different scale: a low rise in the land with a clearly defined boundary rather than a tall building. Thus, in Šaratice, a measure of architectural height and a small landscape feature stand side by side.
Šaratica water and its surroundings
Šaratica water has been extracted at Kalužiny since 1896. Its catchment area lies in the landscape around Újezd u Brna. Protection zones for the natural healing spring were designated by Decree IL-480.4 of 21 June 1963. The catchment area and the protection zones are two different details: one refers to the surrounding landscape, the other to the natural healing spring. Together, the extraction site, its landscape setting and the designation of protection zones give the subject of water its own historical and geographical dimension.
Activities and events in summer 2026
From 1 to 31 August 2026, the Dopravní stezka Šaratice was offered, with 15 stations about traffic signs and road safety. Participants could pick up a quiz card, visit all the stations, decipher a solution at the end and receive a small gift. At the Tradiční Šaratické hody on 16 August 2026, a procession through the village followed the laying down of the stárkovský slib and the handing over of the hodové právo in Šaratice.
At the Brunch na farní zahradě on 18 July 2026, participants could bring a sweet or savoury dish for the shared table. The formats described were quite different: traffic signs and road safety were the focus of the Dopravní stezka, while the brunch centred on the shared table. If you want to plan a later trip around a festival or activity, check the specific dates for your chosen period.
