Podomí has a clear historical timeline: its origins as a two-row forest-strip village, its first written mention, and later changes to the settlement can be distinguished chronologically. The village was also divided by the Podomka stream, and there are specific opportunities for outdoor activities. When deciding where to go, you can therefore weigh whether local history, landscape, or outdoor activities should shape your stay.
From Foundation to Resettlement
Podomí was founded during the colonization of the region in the 13th century. The first written mention dates from 1349, when the settlement was called Boda. The date of its foundation and its first written mention are therefore not the same. Podomí was founded as a two-row forest-strip village. The eastern part of the village was resettled between 1550 and 1567. To put these dates in context, it helps to distinguish between them: the 13th century marks the settlement’s origins, 1349 its first written mention, and 1550 to 1567 the resettlement of the eastern part. This makes the local history legible as a sequence of distinct phases.
Manufactory and Monument
A weaving and spinning manufactory was established on the Podomí estate in 1803. A sandstone monument commemorates 15 Podomí residents who fell in the First World War; it was erected in 1921. The monument was later moved from the crossroads in the village center to the park on the grounds of the new school. The manufactory and monument offer different historical perspectives: textile production on the estate and remembrance of the fallen residents, with the location of that memorial later changing.
Streams and Traces of Lost Settlements
The Podomka stream divided the original village and its cadastral area into eastern and western parts. The Podomský potok flows through Podomí and Jedovnice and feeds the Budkovický and Olšovec ponds. The Podomka represents the village’s historical division; the Podomský potok and the ponds add water-related features that extend beyond Podomí.
The abandoned half of Podomí covers 256 hectares, three fifths of which are forested. The so-called Rájecký rybník is located in this area. People from Podomí use it for winter activities and sport fishing, mostly children and young people. If you are considering visiting the pond, check the current conditions and access beforehand.
The abandoned settlement of Hamlíkov lies within the cadastral area of Podomí, about two kilometers southeast of the village. Ten relics have been preserved at the settlement. Thus, both the extent of the abandoned half and another vanished settlement site are part of Podomí’s historical landscape.
Cycling and Local Sports
The third stage of the Stezka Blanenskem begins in Podomí and is also suitable for cyclists. Conditions may change, so check the latest situation before setting out. The multipurpose sports ground in Podomí is regularly used by the public for sports and physical activities. Individuals, organizations, and groups can rent it. Confirm current availability before visiting; if renting, you should also clarify the applicable conditions. These are different options to consider when planning: the stage is a point of interest for cyclists, while the sports ground combines regular public use with the option to rent it.
