The blue-marked hiking trail from the Kaly bus stop through Zahrada to the Křivoš lookout tower provides a direct link between getting there and going on an excursion. There are also cycling routes with specified lengths, as well as chapels and monuments in Kaly and Zahrada. When planning your stay, you can first decide whether hiking, cycling or the local places of remembrance should be the main focus.

Hiking to the Křivoš Lookout Tower

The Křivoš lookout tower stands southeast of the village of Zahrada, a district of Kaly in the Brno-venkov District, on the 464-metre-high summit of the same name. A blue-marked hiking trail leads from the Kaly bus stop through Zahrada to the tower. From the Křivoš viewing platform, the marked trail passes some notable small waterfalls on the Kalský potok. If you want to include both points on your hike, you can treat the tower and the waterfalls as stops along this marked route. The lookout tower is open year-round, free of charge and freely accessible; check the conditions before your visit.

Cycling Routes of Different Lengths

The large PORTA microregion cycling loop runs from Předklášteří through Dolní Loučky, Kaly, Zahrada, Štěpánovice and Lomnička, and back to Předklášteří. It is 16.00 km long; via Babylon Hill, the route measures 16.76 km in total. From Kaly, cyclists can continue to Zahrada either directly or via Babylon. On Babylon Hill there is a viewing platform, a panoramic map and a place to rest. If you plan to rely on these facilities, check local conditions in advance.

The short Štěpánovice–Borač–Kaly–Štěpánovice loop is 7.71 km long, making it the shortest of the cycling routes listed here. The approximately 14 km cycling trip “Na Babylon” starts in Borač, in the Vrby district, and follows an uphill forest path to the Babylon viewing platform above Kaly. Near Zahrada, you can optionally continue to Křivoš and then descend to Dolní Loučky. Trail surfaces and conditions may change; check them before setting off.

Chapels and Monuments in Kaly and Zahrada

The central Chapel of St Mary Magdalene in Kaly dates from 1883 and is a state-protected cultural monument. It stands approximately on the site of an old bell tower dating from 1834. Above the entrance, a niche contains a sculpture of Saint Florian. The monument to the fallen of the First World War stands right beside the chapel; it is made of Nedvědice marble.

At the northern edge of the village, a field path is marked by an undated cast-iron cross on a now badly damaged sandstone base. In Zahrada, a district of Kaly, the Chapel of St Mary Magdalene bears the year 1915 on its gable and was renovated after 1990.
