A Renaissance building with two permanent exhibitions, a tower with 140 steps, and a protected rocky site reveal different sides of Ivančice. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between cultural events, seasonal tower tours, the natural monument, and cycling routes: information about opening hours, dates, access, and route lengths answers different questions.
Exhibitions about Vladimír Menšík and Alfons Mucha
The Renaissance building of the Alfons Mucha Memorial in Ivančice houses permanent exhibitions about Vladimír Menšík and Alfons Mucha, which can be visited year-round. The Menšík exhibition features personal belongings, family photos, documents, and photographs from films in which the actor appeared. Alfons Mucha’s exhibition focuses, among other things, on sketches for the Slav Epic, a study for a stained-glass window in St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague, and other graphic works. The focus of the two exhibitions differs considerably: Menšík’s personal items and film-related materials are presented alongside Mucha’s sketches and graphic works. Check the current opening hours before your visit, as opening arrangements may change.
Tower tours and Romanesque architecture
The Ivančice Tower offers scheduled tours from April to October. The climb to the gallery involves 140 steps, including the intermediate steps. Groups can arrange visits outside the scheduled tour times through the Ivančice Cultural and Information Centre. Check the tour dates before your visit. The first two floors, the oldest parts of the tower, date from the 13th century.
A significant architectural monument can also be found in Řeznovice, a district of Ivančice: the surviving Romanesque church is considered a building of European standing. Its architecture bears clear similarities to comparable buildings in Lombardy in northern Italy from the 11th and 12th centuries. This comparison gives a concrete architectural context to a visit to the church; at the same time, the surviving church itself is an important example of Romanesque architecture.
Pekárka: Natural Monument and Rocky Landscape
Pekárka is a protected natural monument in Ivančice, in the cadastral area of Alexovice. It includes rocks formed from Permo-Carboniferous Rokytná conglomerates. The protected features include rock communities as well as grass and herb communities with scattered woody plants on the conglomerate slopes. The European-protected Moravian carnation (Dianthus moravicus) also grows there. Its geology, plant communities, and protected status make Pekárka a nature destination with several clearly identifiable features.
Access is described as unrestricted; by car, the site can be reached to within about 250 metres. Check the access conditions before setting out. This allows you to plan your journey based on the stated access conditions, without assuming that the remaining distance can be covered by car.
Two Cycling Routes of Different Lengths
The themed Templářská cycling loop is 39 kilometres long and passes through Řeznovice, Ivančice, Alexovice, and Letkovice. A second, considerably shorter option is the 3.2-kilometre cycle path from Oslavany to Ivančice. It starts in Oslavany and connects in Ivančice at Na Volvách Street. The routes therefore differ both in length and in their described format: Templářská is a loop through several places, while the start and connection point are specified for the shorter cycle path. This information helps you choose between a longer loop and a short connecting route.
