Velké Němčice combines two distinct route themes with a unique architectural history. The Moravian-Silesian Pilgrimage Route runs through the town centre; the Velkopavlovická Wine Trail places the town on a longer wine route. Added to these are the Pivovar brewery building, the Church of St Wenceslas and St Vitus, and the Kaštýlek Chapel. For your stay, you can focus on the route or on historic architecture.

Routes through Velké Němčice

Coming from Nosislav, the Moravian-Silesian Pilgrimage Route follows the Svratka to Velké Němčice and passes through the town centre. The town centre is therefore explicitly part of the route. The Velkopavlovická Wine Trail also passes through Velké Němčice and then continues along road II/425. The two routes offer different points of reference: the pilgrimage route focuses on its passage through the town centre, while the wine route continues along road II/425.

The Velkopavlovická Wine Trail is 109 kilometres long, passes through 31 wine-growing municipalities and is marked with yellow metal signs bearing the wine route’s blue logo. The southern loop runs from Židlochovice via Velké Němčice to Uherčice. The length and number of municipalities show the scale of the entire wine route; the sequence of three towns gives a more specific picture of the southern route. This makes it possible to distinguish the regional scale from a particular sequence of places. For cycling, the yellow signs also offer a practical point of reference.

Architectural History and Cultural Heritage

The Pivovar brewery building is an integral part of the château estate and was first mentioned in 1578. Its original room layout has been preserved, along with vaulted structures and typical brewery features. This building brings together a historic date, a connection to the château estate and distinctive architecture. Its spatial layout and brewery features add specific architectural details to its historical context.

The Church of St Wenceslas and St Vitus was built around the middle of the 13th century, originally in the Gothic style. After suffering wartime destruction, it was rebuilt and reconsecrated in 1652; its main altar dates from 1895. The church thus reveals several historical layers: its medieval origins, its rebuilding and reconsecration in the 17th century, and the later altar. This sequence gives the church’s architectural history a clear timeline.

The Kaštýlek Chapel was originally a Baroque chapel in the château garden. It is considered a valuable example of smaller-scale religious architecture and a testament to the château garden, which no longer exists. The chapel thus points both to a distinctive small-scale architectural form and to the former garden. Unlike the church, its particular historical significance lies in its connection with the Baroque chapel and château garden.

When choosing where to stay, you can weigh these themes against one another: the pilgrimage route offers a direct connection to the town centre, the wine route provides a broader regional context, and the buildings offer different ways to explore history. This allows you to choose Velké Němčice based on the focus that matters most for your trip.
