Sezimovo Ústí combines a distinctive cultural focus with traces of history and a designated natural area. In the historic part of the town, Beneš Villa, its adjoining park and a monument are located at the confluence of Kozský potok and the Lužnice. It is the district’s main tourist attraction. The different themes offer several ways to plan your visit: you can focus on the Beneš family, explore the city’s history or turn your attention to protected nature.

Beneš Villa and the Beneš family

The visitor route begins at the Dr. Edvard Beneš Pavilion, continues through the adjoining park and then on to the Beneš family villa. Along the way, audio guide stations provide information about Hana and Edvard Beneš and their life in Sezimovo Ústí. The villa is a monument regularly open to visitors and associated with both of them. As seasonal opening arrangements may change, check current visiting hours before your visit.

The pavilion also features an exhibition about Edvard Beneš’s work as a statesman and democratic legacy, as well as the family life of Edvard and Hana Beneš at the villa. The tour and exhibition emphasize different aspects: the tour connects the park and villa, while the exhibition covers political themes and family life. If you are particularly interested in the family’s history, you will find both biographical and public-life perspectives here.

Architectural traces and historical connections

On the lawn beside the municipal office building, you can see a stone baptismal font, window fragments and other architectural elements. They come from the town that once stood here from the 13th century until 1420. These architectural pieces provide a tangible link to this long period and add another perspective on the past to a visit to the villa. They offer a clearly defined topic for a brief look at the town’s history, without requiring you to plan a particular route.

Individual cultural monuments also highlight particular aspects of history. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was the center of Starý Tábor and was consecrated in 1831. Kozí hrádek has been a national cultural monument since March 30, 1962. On Tomáš Baťa Square, the sundial has displayed true solar time, along with calendar dates for the solstices and equinoxes, since 2005. Its display combines a time reading with notable points in the annual cycle.

Nature and recreation

Přírodní památka LUNA offers a different perspective. The protected area covers 1.7 hectares on a sunny south-facing slope on the right bank of Kozský potok. It is next to the “Pod Letištěm” allotment garden colony and opposite the summer cinema. The protected features include heat-loving grass and herb vegetation and heat-loving animal species, including lizards and vipers. At LUNA, the habitat itself is the focus. If you plan a visit, it is worth checking the applicable rules for the protected area.

Sezimovo Ústí also offers Koupaliště Pohoda, a sports and recreation complex with a swimming pond. Seasonal opening may vary, so check current operating hours if you would like to include the complex in your plans. The attractions can be grouped by interest: Beneš Villa and the historic sites represent culture and history, LUNA offers protected nature, and Pohoda is for sports and recreation. This lets you choose the places that best match what you are especially interested in during your stay.
