The Chapel of the Virgin Mary of Strašín stands on the village square in Lažánky; the rural farmstead No. 5 is on the south side of the square. The chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary of Strašín and dates from 1884. The farmstead is in the centre of the village. Together, they form two distinct architectural landmarks that help define the village centre.
Chapel, Memorial and Local History
The memorial to the fallen of the First World War in Lažánky dates from 1928. Beside the chapel, it points to another chapter of local history: remembrance of the fallen. Looking further back, we come to Matěj Halaburda. In 1738, the local farmer led a peasant uprising in the Lnářsko region. The building, the memorial and the regional event thus provide different historical perspectives. Their dates place them in chronological order: 1738 marks the uprising, 1884 the chapel and 1928 the memorial.
House No. 23 tells a different story of changing use: the former smithy was converted into a new restaurant in 1988 and currently serves only as the club of the Turisté Lažánky association. If you are considering visiting, check access beforehand. Its former use as a restaurant and its current function as a club belong to two different periods.
Cycling Route and Recreation in the Surroundings
The area around Lažánky is well suited to cycling. The purple cycling route No. 3 runs from Blatná via Velký Mačkovský, Blatenka, Jindřichovice, Lažánky, Záboří, Milčice, Čekanice and Mačkov, returning to Blatná; it is 26 km long. This is the length of the entire circuit: Lažánky lies along the route, while Blatná is the starting and return point. If you are planning the ride, check the current route beforehand, as local conditions may change.
Blatná is also relevant as a second point of reference: road III/1399 runs through Lažánky in the direction of Blatná. The road reference indicates a direction, while the cycling route is a circuit passing through several places. This distinction helps you consider the village’s location separately from the cycling route.
There are ponds around Lažánky that are suitable for recreation. The Lomec recreational cottage area is also part of Lažánky. As well as the historical landmarks in the village centre, you can therefore choose recreation in the surrounding area and a related recreational area as separate aspects of your stay.
For planning purposes, you can distinguish between two main interests: the chapel, the memorial and the story of Matěj Halaburda offer points of interest for those interested in culture, while the cycling route is a specific excursion option with a stated distance. The ponds add a recreational option to the mix. You can first consider whether you would rather spend your time exploring local history, cycling or enjoying recreation in the surrounding area.
