Kladruby combines a park landscape with historic buildings from different periods. The romantically redesigned remains of a former water castle are integrated into the park; the building of a former manor farm is also referred to as a castle. The Pilgrimage Chapel of the Holy Trinity provides another focal point. When planning your stay, you can choose to focus on local history and architecture, or add walking excursions.

Water Castle, Manor Farm and Chapel

The remains of the former water castle lie within the park; their romantic redesign is part of their traditional appearance. The building known as Kladruby Castle has a different architectural context: it is the building of the former manor farm and dates from the first half of the 19th century. Its features include a small tower and a clock. The remains of the water castle and the manor farm building thus offer two distinct historical points of reference for exploring the town.

The Pilgrimage Chapel of the Holy Trinity is located in the upper part of Kladruby. Built in 1710, it is late Baroque in style. An altar dedicated to the Holy Trinity stands in the presbytery. Its construction date, style and altar dedication offer different clues to the building’s history. The chapel is accessible by appointment with the municipal office. If you would like to visit the interior, arrange a time with the office and check the municipal website before your visit, as access arrangements may change.

A niche chapel dating from the 19th century stands near the chapel. It provides a later historical reference point alongside the Pilgrimage Chapel, built in 1710. From the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, the view extends over Horažďovice and the plain as far as Strakonice, as well as to the wooded mountains of the Šumava. Sacred architecture and the view thus represent different aspects of a visit here: one can be understood through the building’s date and dedication, while the other draws the eye to the surrounding landscape.

Castle Park and Walking Excursions

The castle park is a landscaped park with romantic features and ponds. The remains of the water castle are integrated into the park. A dragon-shaped section of the park’s boundary wall bears the shape of Indioska. The park’s landscape design and this distinctive detail of its boundary stand side by side.

There are also opportunities for walking excursions in the area around Kladruby. This is a suitable addition if you would like to include some exercise in your travel plans alongside the chapel and local history. Kladruby is also on the Strakonice–Zvotoky bus route. Municipal information about the route was updated on 26 February 2020; check current departure times before travelling.

If you are considering Kladruby as a place to stay, you can use your interests as a guide when looking for a holiday apartment: would you like to focus on the town’s architectural history, or are walking excursions important to you alongside cultural attractions? Planning a chapel visit involves arranging an appointment with the municipal office in advance; if you are travelling by bus, the departure times should suit your travel dates. This will help you match the local cultural and landscape attractions with the practical conditions of your stay.
