Kučeř offers a range of ways to explore: a significant archaeological site, a stone cross with a date, a protected memorial tree and routes through the village. There are also local ponds used for swimming, as well as the wooded surroundings and the nearby Orlík Reservoir. When planning your trip, you can focus on archaeological features, architectural heritage, cycling or peaceful relaxation. The precise location of Obrovy hroby and the different cycling route connections provide useful orientation.
Archaeological Site and Architectural Heritage
Obrovy hroby is a significant archaeological site in Kučeř. Its archaeological classification was updated on 20 April 2026. The site is square and is a type of quadrangular enclosure; it includes an earth rampart and a ditch. The site is located 170 metres north-northwest of the junction of the Kučeř–Sobědraž and Jichovice–Velká roads. The distance and compass direction refer to this junction and provide a precise spatial reference.
Another point of cultural and historical interest is the stone cross in Kučeř. It dates from 1761 and is considered a valuable example of modest vernacular architecture. While Obrovy hroby is described as a fortified site, the cross is a single structure. Here you can encounter two distinct forms of local heritage: an archaeological site and a historic stone monument.
Nature and Recreation
Kučeřský jalovec is a protected individual memorial tree, first designated on 18 April 2000. The protected status applies to this tree. This makes it different from both the archaeological site and the stone cross: here, the focus is a single natural monument.
The nearby Orlík Reservoir is part of Kučeř’s recreational setting. The wooded surroundings offer opportunities for peaceful relaxation and excursions. In addition to the individual named cultural and natural points of interest, the surrounding area itself can also be a focus of your stay.
Cycling and Hiking Routes
Two cycling connections described in different ways are relevant to cyclists. Cycle Route No. 31 Měděnec–Plzeň–Tábor passes through Varvažov, Zvíkovské Podhradí, Kučeř, Květov, Branice, Veselíčko, Bernartice, Stádlec and Stádlec Bridge. The sequence of places listed shows where Kučeř lies along a regional route. Cycle Route No. 1155 Orlík nad Vltavou–Kučeř connects Cycle Route No. 31 with No. 1154 and runs near two natural monuments and a Celtic hillfort. For Route No. 31, the sequence of places is described; for Route No. 1155, the connections to other cycle routes and nearby natural and archaeological sites are identified.
A cycle route passes through Kučeř, and a yellow-marked hiking trail also runs through the village. This lets you distinguish between numbered cycle routes and a marked hiking trail. Before cycling, check the current route markings and road conditions; before hiking, check the current trail markings.
Ponds and Planning Your Day
The local ponds are used for swimming. Check current access before swimming. This gives you a choice of different activities when planning your day: the archaeological site and stone cross, a cycle route or hiking trail, as well as swimming and peaceful relaxation in the wooded surroundings. Your choice of combination can depend on whether you mainly want to visit cultural sites, spend time outdoors or relax by the water.
