Studená U Telče and Domašín are connected by the final section of the approximately 25-kilometre “Po stopách husitů” hiking route: it leads from Jihlávka to Studená via Domašín. The roughly 25 kilometres refer to the hiking route as a whole, not just the section through Domašín. This distinction is useful for planning: it separates the route’s connection between the villages from its total distance.

Hiking: Circular Routes and a Hiking Route

The “Poznej kraj pod Javořicí” educational trail offers a different hiking format. It opened on 7 November 2007 and comprises two overlapping circular routes. The shorter circular route passes through the first five stops; the fourth stop is in Horní Pole at the “K Domašínu” biocentre. When choosing between them, the routes can be distinguished by different features: the “Po stopách husitů” hiking route is described by its approximate total length, while the educational trail is defined by its circular routes and the sequence of stops on the shorter option. This means a hiking route and an educational trail with a circular format are available as two distinct options.

Nature at the “K Domašínu” Biocentre

The biocentre lies between Horní Pole and Domašín and covers 15.13 hectares. It includes a spring-fed slope fen, adjoining fen meadows and wetlands. The wetlands are home to specially protected plant and animal species. The area and its habitats describe different aspects of the natural site: its size provides a concrete sense of scale, while the slope fen, fen meadows and wetlands identify its landscape features. The educational trail is also linked to this natural setting, since its fourth stop is in Horní Pole at the biocentre. Those interested in nature and hiking will find a clear connection here between a trail stop and the habitats described.

Cycling the Craft and Faith Greenway

The Craft and Faith Greenway is a 40-kilometre cycling loop. It continues through Domašín to Horní Pole. Horní Pole also features at the educational trail’s fourth stop, but in a different role: there, the name refers to the location of the stop at the biocentre; on the Greenway, it is part of the route beyond Domašín. The type of route is a useful distinction when choosing an activity: here, there are the educational trail’s stops and circular routes; there, a 40-kilometre route explicitly described as a cycling loop.

The History of Domašín

Domašín was first mentioned in written sources in 1366. The earliest known owner is considered to be Štěpán z Březnice, lord of Šternberk Castle, in the mid-14th century. The two details mark different aspects of the village’s history: its first written mention and its earliest known owner. In 1557, Domašín was incorporated into Studená for the first time and at that time belonged to the Studenská Rychta. From the late 16th century until 1849, Domašín belonged to the Telč estate. Its incorporation into Studená and its later affiliation with the Telč estate are distinct historical connections, each with its own dates.
