Meinetschlag (Malonty) lies at an altitude of 690 m on the edge of the Novohradské hory Protected Landscape Area. The surrounding area is suitable for hiking and offers opportunities for fishing. Historic buildings and the early history of the village add to its natural appeal. This means there are several different points of interest to consider when planning a visit: a named hiking route, a virtual school project, and a church, chapel and wayside shrine.
Hiking and Landscape
One route leads from the village square in Malonty to Jelení vrch, also known as Doppler. The mountain is 956 m high; the route is 4.91 km long and takes about two hours on foot. Jelení vrch is higher than Malonty.
A virtual school project in Malonty included an educational trail of about 5 km; the project was completed in 2012. The difference lies less in the similar distance than in the type of experience: a 4.91 km hiking route leads to Jelení vrch and takes about two hours on foot. The virtual educational trail is about 5 km long; the associated school project was completed in 2012.
Fishing is another activity available in the area around Malonty. For those who do not want to focus solely on hiking, it offers a second nature-related theme to consider when planning a trip.
Local History and Crafts
Malonty was first mentioned in writing in 1360. This year provides a dated reference point for the history of the village. Early settlers founded two glassworks in the surrounding area. Thus, the landscape’s history includes both its first written mention and the establishment of early crafts. The area’s craft history is complemented by Malonty’s religious architectural heritage, represented by the Church of St. Bartholomew and the Chapel of St. Barbara.
Church, Chapel and Wayside Shrine
The stone, plastered Church of St. Bartholomew stands on a hill above Malonty, in the middle of the cemetery. The two-aisled section was built shortly after the choir, in the first quarter or first third of the 15th century.
The Chapel of St. Barbara is part of the church complex. The church choir is built against the south wall of the chapel. The choir is built against the south wall of the chapel; the two-aisled section was built shortly after the choir, in the first quarter or first third of the 15th century.
A stone Late Gothic wayside shrine dating from the 16th century stands on the road from Malonty to Kaplice. It complements the description of the church and chapel with a single monument from a later period. Those interested in architectural history can compare different forms and periods: the church complex and its construction sequence, and the wayside shrine on the road to Kaplice.
