Novosedly U Ceskeho Krumlova can be understood through its specific buildings and their locations. The chapel stands in the village square, the protected farmstead No. 3 in the western part of the village, and the wayside shrine on its southeastern edge. A yellow-marked hiking trail also runs along the southern edge. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for an exploratory trip, you can focus on local history or hiking.
Chapel and protected farmstead
The chapel “Panny Marie Bolestné” is located in the village square in the Novosedly district. Its distinctive architectural features include a centrally positioned, four-sided open bell tower. The year 1817 is displayed above the entrance. The chapel thus offers both a clearly defined design detail and a specific date on the building, without implying that the year is its construction date. The bell tower is the section that houses the bell; “open” describes its architectural form.
The protected ensemble of farmstead No. 3 is located in the western part of the village. It consists of a residential building and a granary. The ensemble is therefore not centered on just one building: both building types together make up the protected property. This distinguishes the farmstead from the chapel as a standalone structure and adds to the picture of Novosedly’s architectural heritage.
Wayside shrine on the southeastern edge of the village
The “Boží muka” wayside shrine is part of Novosedly’s religious heritage along the roadside. It stands on the southeastern edge of the village, above the access road and beside a former sunken lane. Its location differs from the chapel’s association with the village square: here, the roadside and the former lane define its setting. The wayside shrine is about five metres high and takes the form of a three-sided, two-storey pillar composition. Its approximate height gives an indication of scale; the number of sides and storeys describe its structure. Its form can thus be viewed as a distinct architectural expression within the religious heritage along the route.
Local history and trails
Novosedly was first mentioned in 1379, when it belonged to Krumlov Castle. This first mention and the year 1817 displayed on the chapel have different roles: the former relates to the village’s early history, while the latter appears above the building’s entrance. Another historical reference is a find from 1989. An unusually large bronze axe was discovered in Novosedly that year; it is now lost. This find adds a different kind of evidence to the village’s history than the surviving buildings.
If you would like to include hiking in your trip, a yellow-marked hiking trail runs along the southern edge of Novosedly. Check the trail markings before setting out. When planning, keep two distinct aspects in mind: the village’s architectural and historical features, and route-finding on the hiking trail.
