Černá v Pošumaví lies on the left bank of the Lipno Reservoir, at its widest point, and within the Šumava Protected Landscape Area. Water, trails and activities shaped by the seasons offer different highlights: alongside the beach and windsurfing, there are routes through the surrounding area and events throughout the year.
Lakeside Trails and Beach
A 740-metre route used mainly by pedestrians and cyclists runs along the Lipno Reservoir. It begins in the centre of Černá v Pošumaví below the wastewater treatment plant building, continues beneath gardens and connects to the Černá v Pošumaví–Hůrka footpath and cycle path. Its specific length and connection make the route a clearly defined stretch along the shore; access conditions may change.
Windy Point is a sandy beach on the Lipno Reservoir with a cocktail bar. Admission is free; seasonal access conditions may change, so it is best to check before your trip. Windy Point also offers activities for children, which may vary by season. If you would like to combine a stay by the water with another activity, Černá v Pošumaví also has the Adventure Park rope course. Check its seasonal availability in advance.
Activities on and around Lipno
The Lipno Windsurfing school in Černá v Pošumaví offers individual lessons and rents the necessary equipment. Lessons and operating hours may vary by season; check the availability of rental equipment before making plans as well. This gives you a specific watersport option and a lesson opportunity in addition to visiting the beach, without requiring both activities to follow the same format.
You can also fish from a boat on Lipno; boats can be rented at several locations. Boat rental availability may vary by season. This option adds a different activity to the waterfront offerings: windsurfing lessons and equipment rental are tied to the school mentioned above, whereas fishing takes place on Lipno and boats are rented from several locations.
Routes and Landscape
The Jestřábí loop runs in the immediate vicinity of Černá v Pošumaví. The Horem Lesem route goes over Mount Lískovec and through Velké Bahno and Novolhotský les. Velké Bahno includes extensive spruce-alder stands at various stages of development, as well as significant flora and vegetation. This gives you two different route options alongside the short lakeside stretch: the loop in the immediate vicinity and Horem Lesem, with its named landscape areas.
The Rybářská bašta, with an exhibition on fishing and hunting, is also nearby. A route there starts in Černá. The exhibition offers a cultural connection to subjects that also play a role on Lipno, while Velké Bahno is characterized primarily by the stands, flora and vegetation described above.
Events Throughout the Year
Černá v Pošumaví’s regular annual events include the Masopust carnival in February. In July and August, the programme includes an open-air cinema showing films and fairy tales, as well as concerts. Dates and the programme may vary. These events follow a different schedule from the landscape and routes described as available year-round; if a particular event is important to your trip, check the latest dates.
Activities in January also depend on winter conditions: the programme includes an ice rink on a frozen body of water, whose availability depends on ice conditions and the current programme. Ice sailing races are also part of the January programme; whether they can take place likewise depends on ice conditions and the current programme. The Yacht Club in Černá v Pošumaví organizes competitions for various yacht classes. For these seasonal events, it is advisable to check the latest dates before your trip.
Culture and Travel Planning
In addition to the routes and events, there is one notable cultural monument in the village: the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands beside the western façade of the church. Together with the exhibition nearby, it adds a cultural highlight to the water- and landscape-related options. Which of these themes shapes your stay depends on whether you would rather focus on the beach and watersports, routes and nature, or seasonal events.
