In the Čimice Valley, south-facing rock outcrops and their rocky steppe vegetation are among Čimice’s distinctive natural features. The area also has archaeological traces of the past and local culture, so you can plan your trip around the landscape, hiking trails, or history.

Nature and Hiking Trails

Some of the most valuable areas of the Čimice Valley are its south-facing outcrops of hard Proterozoic shales. They are home to rocky steppe plant communities characterized by the grasses Kostřava walliská and Kostřava přitvrdlá. This combination of rock, aspect, and named steppe grasses gives the valley a distinctive natural character for a stay in Čimice.

The Draháň Valley is also shaped by its flora and fauna, and is home to numerous rare species. A yellow-marked hiking trail starts at the Sídliště Čimice stop, runs through the valley, passes a former mill, and ends on the banks of the Vltava. Local trail markings may change, so check the signs before setting out.

A blue-marked hiking trail leads back through the Čimice Valley as part of the circular route. The trail descriptions thus provide different reference points: the yellow trail’s start, route, and destination are specified, while the blue trail leads back through the Čimice Valley. Use the different routes to help plan your hikes.

Archaeological History and Architecture

The hillfort was inhabited almost continuously from the 5th century BC to the 9th century AD and is protected as a first-category archaeological monument. Its history can therefore be understood across a long period, rather than being confined to a single era.

Čimická tvrz is an archaeological site where archaeological finds have been documented or are reasonably expected. The evidence spans the Late Roman period, the Migration Period, and the Early, High, and Late Middle Ages. Together with the history of the hillfort, these periods offer a broad historical perspective on Čimice.

The former Neoclassical Chapel of St John of Nepomuk, dating from the second half of the 18th century, stood on the rise at the old village square. Following alterations, only the upper part of the bell tower remains today. The chapel is a historic landmark, although only this part of the tower survives.

Local Art and Community

The Galerie mezi stromy exhibits works by local visual artists. As the exhibition program may change, check in advance which works will be on display during your planned visit if you intend to include the gallery in your itinerary.

“Zažít Čimice jinak” is an annual neighborhood community event. It brings public spaces in Čimice to life and brings together residents of all generations. If the event is the reason for your trip, check the date and program for the year of your visit.

Parkáč is also part of local life: residents of Čimice use the place, and people from Bohnice and elsewhere regularly visit as well. This aspect complements the historical themes with a glimpse of how the community uses the area.
