Okrouhlé Hradiště lies on the gently sloping southern hillside of the southern spur of Hradišťský vrch. Orchards surround the settlement, and scenic rows of fruit trees line local paths and roads. Three themes shape travel planning here: the prehistoric hillfort site, a nature and history educational trail, and several cycling routes through the village.

Hillfort and educational trail

The Hradišťský kopec hillfort site in Okrouhlé Hradiště is designated a national cultural monument. It is the second-largest hillfort site in West Bohemia and an important record of socioeconomic changes at the end of the Bronze Age. Its size, monument status and Late Bronze Age dating make it a notable focus for travellers interested in the region’s early settlement.

The Hradišťský vrch educational trail is a 5.5-kilometre circular route with six information boards and green trail markings. The typical walking time is given as about two and a half hours. The boards provide information about the characteristic flora and fauna of this distinctive landscape, as well as prehistoric settlement in the Late Bronze Age. Several lovely views over the surrounding region add to these themes. Check the local signs before setting out.

The circular route therefore brings together nature and history over a defined walking distance. When planning your walk, you can use its length and approximate walking time to plan your day; the six stops also provide a thread to follow through the information along the way.

Local history and the church

The historic centre of Okrouhlé Hradiště is documented from 1369. The Church of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist is mentioned as early as 1380 and has been listed as a parish church since 1696. The present church building is Pseudo-Romanesque and dates from 1881. The dates mark different milestones: 1380 is the church’s first mention, 1696 its designation as a parish church, and 1881 the construction date of the present building.

This distinction in dates offers a separate way to explore local history: the historic centre, the church’s early mention and the architecture of the present building each represent a different aspect of the place. In this way, the cultural highlights can be explored not only through the hillfort site, but also through the history of the village centre and the church.

Cycling routes through Okrouhlé Hradiště

Several named cycling routes also pass through Okrouhlé Hradiště. The “Nad úterským potokem” route follows cycle route 306 through the village. The same is true of “K vodě dvakrát přes Hadovku”, which also follows route 306. The 48-kilometre Šipín cycling route also passes through Okrouhlé Hradiště. This lets you choose between two routes that connect via route 306 and the Šipín route, whose total distance is specified.

The walking and cycling options offer different scales for planning: the educational trail has both a stated length and a typical walking time, while Šipín is listed as a 48-kilometre route. A tourist stamp for Gutštejn Castle is available at the Hadovka restaurant in Okrouhlé Hradiště. If you would like to collect the stamp, check briefly before your visit that it is available.
