Třemošná between Landscape and History

Třemošná combines a striking landscape with several distinct local themes. The town lies in a broad, elongated valley, through the middle of which the Třemošenka stream flows. The town’s history includes the birthplace of painter Václav Brožík, a chapel on the village square and a railway bridge over the same stream. The cycle path and ice rink offer a different focus, complementing the historic sites with practical leisure activities. When choosing where to stay, you can first decide whether cultural history, cycling or ice skating is the deciding factor for you.

Artists and Historic Buildings

The renowned Czech painter Václav Brožík was born on 5 March 1851 in Hamr, at house no. 57 in Třemošná. His birthplace is a local historic building. The house number and exact date provide a biographical anchor for the connection to art; if you are interested in the stories of individual figures, this place offers a different perspective from looking at a building.

The four-sided chapel stands on Třemošná’s village square. It was built between 1853 and 1855 and consecrated on 14 June 1857. Construction and consecration were two separate stages: building took several years, and the consecration followed later on a precisely dated day. Together with the birthplace, the chapel offers a second historical perspective, this time on a building and the period in which it was constructed rather than on a biographical trace.

Another local historical landmark is the railway bridge over the Třemošenka. It was built by the Italian master builder Pietro Righini and entered service on 1 May 1872. The date marks the beginning of the bridge’s service. Since the Třemošenka also flows through the middle of the valley, the stream can be understood both as a feature of the landscape and as a point of reference in the bridge’s history.

Cycling and Ice Skating

For outdoor exercise, the 4 km Plzeň-Bolevec–Třemošná cycle path is a clearly defined option. It runs from Bolevec station to Třemošná through pleasant, wooded surroundings. The starting point, destination and length are particularly useful for finding your way. Check the path conditions before setting out, as they may change.

Sport Aréna Třemošná offers public ice skating, and its ice rink operates year-round. This adds a different leisure option to cycling. If you are planning to attend a public skating session, check the specific date and time before your visit.

Practical Information

At Třemošná u Plzně station, the station building or shelter is accessible to people with reduced mobility. This information does not include the platforms. If step-free platform access is important for your plans, check this separately.

Třemošná City Library lends e-books and audiobooks to registered readers through the Palmknihy app. The service therefore offers two types of digital media; if you would like to use it, check in advance that you are registered.
