Nezamyslice combines a protected church ensemble with local architectural history, a small church museum and the Lamberská Trail. This brings together different scales for planning a trip: a look at the town’s sights and an almost 50-kilometre route that can be explored in stages.
Church and Architectural History
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands on a hill at the northwestern edge of Nezamyslice and is part of a protected monument ensemble. In the first half of the 14th century, a new church was built here on the site of an older place of worship. Around 1515, the nave was transformed into a three-aisled hall with net vaults. “Three-aisled” describes the division of the nave into three aisles; the net vaults refer to the form of vaulting associated with this renovation.
To the west of the church and outside the cemetery stands the Chapel of St. Erasmus. It was founded in the first half of the 17th century. In 1860, it was repaired and converted into the family crypt of the Lamberg family. The chapel houses a unique collection of Lamberg tombstones, most of which date from the 16th century. This means that most of the tombstones predate the chapel’s foundation.
Museum and Other Places of Remembrance
A visit to the church grounds also includes the small Museum of Nezamyslice Churches. It was established in the former mortuary on the grounds of the church and the Chapel of St. Erasmus. The small exhibition comprises information panels and several exhibits from the churches’ storage collections. The museum adds an exhibition to the tour, while the church and chapel focus on architectural forms and tombstones.
Other places around Nezamyslice also reflect different aspects of the town’s history. The writer Karel Klostermann attended the former school building by the church cemetery in 1854–1855. A statue of St. John of Nepomuk stands at a crossroads in the eastern part of Nezamyslice. The war memorial lists the names of fallen soldiers. Another small sight is the niche chapel of the Virgin Mary, set into a wall. It is thought to date from the 19th century.
The Lamberská Trail and Nature Observation
The Czech section of the Lamberská Trail is an almost 50-kilometre circular route that can be completed in stages. The route can be explored on foot or by car and links visits to museums, castles, viewpoints and pilgrimage churches. In Nezamyslice, the church grounds—with the prominent Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the Chapel of St. Erasmus—are among the route’s main attractions. If you want to connect the town with other stops, you can use the trail’s stages as a framework for planning your trip.
A 2011 route description mentions an unmarked footpath around Panský Nezamyslický Pond. It offers views of the church and Rabí Castle; the path also provides opportunities to observe birds, plants and fish. The same description mentions a large car park below the church. Check local trail and parking conditions before your visit.
