When planning a stay in Javor, culture, cycling and hiking trails, and how to get there are practical starting points. The first written mention dates from 1379; two cycling routes follow different itineraries, and two marked hiking trails pass through the municipality. When travelling there, take into account its location at the end of a road and two bus services, with several departures each day.
History and cultural heritage
The first written mention of Javor dates from 1379. The fortified hilltop settlement site “Hradiště Javor” is an immovable cultural monument. The term refers to a fortified settlement site in an elevated location.
Javor’s wooden bell tower is one of the sights on the “Okolo Strážova” cycling tour.
Compare cycling and hiking trails
Cyclists can clearly distinguish between two local routes. Cycling Route No. 2038 runs between Strážov and Běsiny via Javor; Cycling Route No. 2110 leads from Javor via Loučany to Hornà Lhota. On Route No. 2038, Javor lies between two named places, while Route No. 2110 starts in Javor and passes through two other places. This lets you plan according to the sequence of places you want to visit.
Two marked hiking trails also pass through the municipality of Javor. Hiking and cycling are therefore distinct trail options for your stay. Check the current signage before setting out.
Getting there and transport
Javor lies at the end of a class III road, so there is no through traffic. Road conditions can change, so it is a good idea to check them before travelling.
Public bus services include a route from Klatovy via Týnec to Javor and another from Janovice nad Úhlavou via Týnec to Javor. Both routes run several times a day. They differ in their respective starting points and share Týnec as an intermediate stop. If you are travelling by bus, check the current timetable for your travel date.
Landscape and events
Near Javor lies Rovenská hora, a low, partly wooded summit. There are views from a meadow. If you would rather choose based on the landscape than on the places along the route, this offers a different focus from the numbered cycling routes.
The traditional small-sided football tournament “Javorkop Járy Vilda” is held in Javor every year as part of the church feast. The SDH Javor fire brigade ball was held in 2024; a third edition was announced for 2026. The tournament is an annual event, while the fire brigade ball is associated with specific editions in the years mentioned. Check event dates separately when planning a particular visit.
