Milotice Nad Bečvou offers two concrete points to consider when choosing a destination: the Bečva Cycle Route and a local history that stretches from the triangular village square to the Struha mill race. The Bečva itself and several lakes are additional features. This means you can focus your stay more on a cycling trip or on the village’s historical traces.

Cycle route, river and orientation

The Bečva Cycle Route passes through Milotice Nad Bečvou from Hustopeče nad Bečvou to Špičky. The village is also located on the right bank of the middle course of the Bečva. This gives you two ways to frame a cycling destination: the cycle route marks a path through the village, while its riverbank location places Milotice along the river’s middle course.

The road from Hranice via Hustopeče nad Bečvou towards Valašské Meziříčí also provides a point of reference: Milotice lies along this route. The cycle route and the road represent different connections that can help you orient yourself in the area.

Lakes, protected area and fishing

Four lakes with a total area of 27.872 hectares lie between the ČD railway line and the Bečva. There are holiday cottages on the shores of Lakes 2 and 3. Lakes 2 to 5 in the Bečva 5A fishing area have potential for the development of sport fishing. If you plan to fish, check access and the applicable permits in advance.

The Hustopeče-Štěrkáč natural monument also includes the cadastral area of Milotice Nad Bečvou and protects the habitat of the beetle Cucujus cinnaberinus. The village’s natural setting therefore includes protected habitats as well as the river and lakes.

History between the village square and the mill race

The first written mention of Milotice Nad Bečvou dates from 1131. The triangular layout of the village square, with a chapel, is also considered evidence of the village’s great age. These two details provide different historical reference points: the year 1131 as an early written record and the layout as a spatial feature of the village.

The Chapel of St. Anne was built in 1853 at the expense of the municipality and with the support of local residents. A granite memorial to the victims of the First and Second World Wars stands near the local chapel. It was unveiled on 25 June 1933; the names of citizens who fell between 1939 and 1945 were added later.

At house No. 13 stands the Milotický mlýn mill, beside an artificial mill race called Struha. The history of the race dates back to the 15th century. The village’s history can thus be explored not only through its square, chapel and memorial, but also through the named watercourse and mill site.

The dates represent different historical periods: 1131 marks the first written mention, 1853 the construction of the chapel, and 1933 the unveiling of the memorial. The names added later refer to those who fell between 1939 and 1945.
