Horní Moštěnice brings together historic buildings and archaeological traces with specific cycling and hiking routes. The church, the remains of the earthworks at Švédské šance and the partially preserved Zámeček represent different chapters in the town’s history. There is also a protected ginkgo tree, the Hanácká kyselka mineral water spring and the regularly held Hodové slavnosti. Together, these offer several starting points for planning your stay—from cultural history to routes through the surrounding area.
Arrival and orientation
Horní Moštěnice railway station is on line 330 between Přerov and Břeclav. Access to the station building or stop, including the weather shelter, is barrier-free. Check this operational information again before your trip.
The named destinations and route directions are helpful for finding your way around: Švédské šance lies on a described route between Újezdec and Horní Moštěnice; other routes pass through several towns before connecting with marked trails. The information about routes and markings distinguishes the options without combining them into a single loop.
Church, archaeological site and local history
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, in its present form, is a Baroque building dating from 1757 to 1792. At Švédské šance, the remains of the earthworks of a fortified Swedish military camp from 1643 have been preserved. Švédské šance is designated as a significant archaeological site in Horní Moštěnice. Two different kinds of historical evidence can therefore be found here: a building whose present form is classified as Baroque, and preserved remains of a 17th-century fortification.
The Zámeček also tells the story of a different architectural development. After extensive alterations during the communist era, only part of the façade remained. The surviving façade should therefore not be mistaken for a fully preserved building; it points to a history in which the appearance of the Zámeček changed considerably. Together with the church and the earthwork remains, it offers a varied perspective on the history of the buildings and the town.
Ginkgo, mineral spring and traditions
A protected ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba), more than 170 years old and with an unusual crown shape, grows in Zámecká zahrada. The tree connects a distinctive natural feature with the history of the garden. Cultural events are held occasionally in Zámecká zahrada; they are not regular events. If you would like to time your trip around a particular cultural event, check the dates in advance.
Hodové slavnosti are held regularly in Horní Moštěnice. Hanácká kyselka is the best-known of the local mineral water springs. These offer different points of interest: the Hodové slavnosti are part of the local festive tradition, while Hanácká kyselka connects the town with its mineral water.
Cycling and hiking routes
Along the northeastern edge of Horní Moštěnice run a recommended cycling route and a yellow-marked hiking trail from Újezdec via Švédské šance and Horní Moštěnice to a connection with the blue-marked trail towards Karlovice and Stará Ves. You can follow the described route by referring to the sequence of towns and the trail markings. Check the markings and conditions locally.
The Moštěnka Microregion’s Páteřní cyklotrasa offers another point of reference. It includes a section from Horní Moštěnice via Beňov, Prusy, Čechy and Domaželice to Dřevohostice. It is being implemented in stages and adapted to local conditions. The described routes differ mainly in their sequences of towns and connections: the yellow-marked hiking trail continues to the blue-marked trail towards Karlovice and Stará Ves; the Páteřní cyklotrasa passes through the towns listed above to Dřevohostice. This allows you to compare the named destinations with your planned route without treating the two routes as the same.
