A Romanesque core, an 18th-century renovation and the history of a disused narrow-gauge railway give Dvorce U Bruntálu several cultural and historical points of interest. There is also a fountain in the square and marked cycling routes around the town. This gives you two perspectives to consider when planning your trip: the architectural and local history in Dvorce itself, and activities that extend your stay beyond the town centre.
Churches and their historical periods
The Church of St Giles stands on a rise on the northeastern edge of Dvorce and is a prominent landmark. Its Romanesque core dates to an earlier construction phase; in the mid-18th century, the church was renovated to a design by Andrea Altomonte. These two periods provide a clear framework for understanding the town’s architectural history.
St Catherine's Chapel is a single-nave cemetery chapel built by Lutherans around the middle of the 16th century. Since 1996, it has been a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. “Single-nave” describes a building with one nave and identifies the chapel’s architectural type. Together, the church and chapel represent different building types and historical periods in Dvorce.
Trade route, town privileges and local history
The Lords of Šternberk founded Dvorce along an old trade route from Olomouc to Silesia. The town was first mentioned in writing in 1339; Dvorce received its first town privileges in 1363 from Vojtěch ze Šternberka. The dates mark different milestones: one records the first written evidence, while the other marks the granting of town privileges. The Neptune Fountain, with its statue of Neptune, is a defining feature of the square in Dvorce.
The Muzeum Dvorce was established on 5 September 1999 in a two-storey Empire-style rectory dating from the mid-19th century and is currently temporarily closed. Part of the exhibition is dedicated to the painter Ferdinand Krumholz (1810–1878), who was born in Dvorce. The collection also includes objects documenting the history of the municipality. The temporary closure is important to bear in mind when planning: the museum is not currently open to visitors.
Cycling routes, bus and surroundings
Transport history is also part of the town’s story: the former narrow-gauge railway between Dvorce and Moravský Beroun opened in 1908 and closed in 1934. These dates mark a historical period that has come to an end.
Regional bus route 910 runs via Bruntál, Roudno, Dvorce and Moravský Beroun. Check the current timetable before setting off. You can use marked cycling routes around Dvorce. The bus route and cycling routes offer different ways to plan your stay: the bus connects several of the places mentioned, while the cycling routes focus on riding around Dvorce.
Nearby Roudno is another point of regional interest, located 9 km from Dvorce. A 20-metre-high observation tower stands on Velký Roudný, an extinct volcano. This adds a named destination outside Dvorce to the local history, without combining the various stops into a fixed route.
