In Loučky, protected natural areas meet a rich local history. The Podloučky Nature Monument, routes for cyclists and hikers, and the museum, church and historic school buildings offer different ways to explore during your stay. The topics range from specially protected plants to a small exhibition about Loučky and the teacher František Hořák.

Nature, Plants and Fossils

The Podloučky Nature Monument also includes the cadastral area of Loučky. It protects communities of xerothermic grassland, as well as preserved, species-rich beech forests where specially protected species are found. Protected plants that grow there include the Red Helleborine, White Helleborine, Spring Cinquefoil, Martagon Lily and Cross Gentian. Those interested in plants and habitats will find several specific names here that characterize the natural area.

Loučky also has a distinct geological feature: a fossil site on the southern edge of the village, described as the most important site for Middle Turonian fossils in Bohemia. Another notable feature stands along the road to Fialník: a wild pear tree that was designated a memorial tree in 2023. The fossil site, plant life and memorial tree are different aspects of the landscape around Loučky.

Cycling and Hiking Routes Through Loučky

Green cycle route No. 4099 runs through Loučky from Malá Skála to Chutnovka. The blue hiking trail also passes through the village, running from Malá Skála to Rotštejn. The two routes therefore differ both in their stated mode of travel and in their respective destinations. When planning a trip, you can use this information to choose the route that suits your planned activity.

Museum and Local History

The former school building in Loučky now serves as the “Výstavní zastavení” exhibition space and as the municipal administration building. In the small museum, visitors can see the Loučky Nativity scene and learn about the village’s history and the life of teacher and notable local figure František Hořák. About 3 m² of the exhibition can be seen in the “Výstavní zastavení.” As visitor information may change, check the latest details before planning a visit.

The Church of St. Anthony of Padua is an example of a simple rural Baroque church. The aristocratic Des Fours family had it built between 1787 and 1790; it has been a protected monument since January 19, 2009. There is also a valuable 19th-century crucifix in the cemetery near the entrance. The church’s construction period, architecture and protected status give it a firm place in local history.

The history of the school and local associations adds to this picture. The current school building in Loučky was built between 1882 and 1883 and has largely retained its original appearance to this day. A plaque on the façade of the Sokolovna commemorates František Hořák. TJ Sokol Loučky was founded on November 19, 1903; its statutes were approved on February 26, 1904. In Loučky, you can encounter various traces of the past: religious architectural history, memories of a local figure, the school and community life.
