The Kolovská Chapel gives Kohlhau a tangible historical landmark; at the same time, marked hiking and cycling routes run through Kolová toward Pila. This makes it possible to choose the location based on two concrete themes: a chapel history with several dated milestones and routes with named starting points and waypoints. The historical name “Kohlhau” refers to a clearing where charcoal was burned; Kolová was first mentioned in 1622. Most of Kolová’s administrative area lies within the Slavkov Forest Protected Landscape Area.
The Kolovská Chapel and its history
A local resident named Neuerer built the Kolovská Chapel in 1873. In 1930, it was rebuilt, repaired and extended; at the same time, the altar was restored with an image of Saint Anne. From 1930 onward, Masses were celebrated and pilgrimages held on Saint Anne’s feast day. The timeline spans the chapel’s construction, its religious use at the time and later work on the building: the municipality repaired it in 1996, and it was reconsecrated in October 2005.
Between the chapel and the school is a landscaped park with a wooden pavilion and several benches. The exterior grounds of the Chapel of Saint Anne are open to visitors; check access locally before your trip. The chapel and park are two neighbouring points of interest to consider when planning the cultural part of your stay.
Landscape and hiking routes
Two long-distance hiking trails, marked in blue and red, pass through Kolová. The blue route comes from Vítkův vrch and continues through the village toward Pila. The red route runs from Březová through the valley of the Cínový potok to Kolová, then also continues toward Pila. The starting points and valley section make it easy to distinguish the routes: Vítkův vrch is the named starting point for the blue trail, while the red trail starts in Březová and goes through the Cínový potok valley. Check the current trail markings before setting out, as routes may change.
Specific waypoints can also help you choose a cycling route. Marked cycle route 2288 runs from Gejzír Park through the forests below Vítkův vrch, through Kolová and onward toward Pila. National cycle route 39 passes by Kolovský rybník, through Kolová and then on to Pila. The two routes differ in the named waypoints: route 2288 passes Gejzír Park and the forests below Vítkův vrch, while route 39 passes Kolovský rybník. Check the current markings for route 2288; for route 39, check the current surface conditions and signage before your ride.
Golf Club Háje
Another option to consider when planning your trip is the golf course of Golf Club Háje. It is located in the state-protected Slavkov Forest. The club’s address is Háje 89, Kolová, 360 01 Karlovy Vary. If you plan to visit the course, check current access arrangements and club details in advance.
