Bečov Castle, an extensive Botanical Garden and several museums reveal different sides of Bečov nad Teplou. During your stay, you can focus on cultural history, plant collections or outdoor activities, depending on your interests. The educational trail is about one kilometre long; the Bečov Quest takes approximately 70 to 90 minutes on foot.
Castle history and special collections
Bečov Castle first opened to the public in 1996. Visitors can see an exhibition of Gothic art from western Bohemia and explore two tour routes. One is dedicated to the Romanesque Reliquary of St. Maurus; the other takes in the Baroque castle interiors, including the library, chapel and salons. The reliquary is displayed in the Bečov Castle and Chateau complex. A visit therefore centres on both art and the complex’s varied rooms and historical periods.
Other museums offer their own highlights. The Museum of Historical Motorcycles displays more than 50 historic motorcycles, as well as historic bicycles and motorcycle engines. The upper floor houses an exhibition of wooden toys, family puppet theatres and marionettes. The Museum of Ironing and Washing includes exhibitions of piggy banks, banknotes and coins. The Cup Museum displays more than 4,600 cups, alongside wood carvings, retro items and historic photographs of Bečov nad Teplou. Exhibition contents may change.
History is also part of the townscape beyond the museums: the column bearing a statue of the Virgin Mary Immaculate stands in front of the town hall and was erected in 1680.
Botanical Garden and protected landscape
The Bečov Botanical Garden covers 12 hectares. It includes five hectares of intensive exhibition areas, 1.5 hectares of water, 1.5 hectares of orchard and four hectares of natural areas. More than 10,000 plant species are cultivated in the garden.
The garden is also home to the first Bioferrata in the Czech Republic. Its routes vary in difficulty, including routes suitable for children. If you plan to take part, check the current operating and equipment requirements before your visit. Visitors can rent boats on Korunní Pond; availability may vary.
The Bečov area is part of the Slavkov Forest Protected Landscape Area. The Teplá Valley between Bečov and Mnichov is a nature reserve.
Trails and outdoor activities
The Šibeniční vrch educational trail is about one kilometre long and has five information panels in Czech, German and English. A circular route through the forests of Bečov can start at the town square in Bečov nad Teplou and follows the green hiking trail marker towards Bečovské rybníky.
On the Bečov Quest, participants follow a route, search for clues and solve a riddle at the end. It takes about 70 to 90 minutes on foot. Availability depends on arrangements with the provider, so check in advance whether the activity will be available during your visit.
