In Uhřínovice, a Late Gothic fortress provides a common thread for a stay that can be combined with culture and walking or cycling trips. There is also a chapel, the Calvary, and two routes of different lengths. Before looking for accommodation, you can consider whether architectural history or physical activity should be the focus of your trip.
Fortress on Na Tvrzi Hill
The Uhřínovice Fortress stands on Na Tvrzi Hill above the settlement. It is Late Gothic and is considered the only surviving fortress in the entire district. The stone building has two storeys and measures 12 × 18 metres. Traces of the fortress moat are also visible on the hill. Together, the building’s form and the traces in the terrain give an impression of the site: the measurements describe the building, while the remains of the moat point to its fortifications.
The fortress in Uhřínovice, house number 1, is protected as an immovable cultural monument and listed under registration number 25416/6-2463. The building dates to the mid-16th century; Mikuláš z Ledské or his son Jan are named as its builders. The fortress was first mentioned in 1593. After 1694, it ceased to serve as a noble residence and was subsequently converted into a granary. The settlement of Uhřínovice itself was first mentioned as early as 1387. Its local history therefore predates the construction of the fortress.
Other points of cultural and historical interest
There are named places with historical significance beyond the fortress, too. The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk is designated as an object of heritage interest in the cadastral area of Uhřínovice u Voděrad. The same designation applies to the Calvary in Uhřínovice u Voděrad. The Calvary monument in Uhřínovice was erected in 1901 at the expense of local residents. This extends the focus beyond the fortress to religious sites and local history. If culture is your main interest, you can take the fortress as your central point of reference and include the chapel and Calvary in your exploration of the area.
Planning cycling and hiking
KČT cycling route 4351 is 14.4 kilometres long in total, with 2.1 kilometres running through Uhřínovice u Voděrad. It follows Class II and III roads, unclassified roads, and a short unpaved section. The surface therefore varies along the route. As surfaces can change through maintenance, check the current condition of the sections before your ride.
A route description published in 2023 lists hiking trail 97, which is 17.5 kilometres long. It runs from Solnice through Byzhradec, Uhřínovice, Lično, the Černíkovický rybník pond, and Černíkovice, before returning to Solnice. Check current trail conditions before setting out. The two routes offer different options for active days: the cycling route covers 14.4 kilometres, while the hiking trail is 17.5 kilometres long. The mode of travel and route length give you an initial comparison for planning.
Choose accommodation to suit your itinerary
When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide which part of your stay takes priority: the history of the fortress and other cultural monuments, or a cycling or hiking trip. Then compare specific offers against your own requirements and check the details and terms of each one before booking.
