Přerov nad Labem offers a cultural focus that ranges from an open-air museum dating back to 1895 to Baroque buildings. Přerovská hůra adds a distinctive landscape feature. The sights give these different themes a tangible presence.
Open-Air Museum and Special Collection Pieces
The origins of the Polabské národopisné muzeum Přerov nad Labem date back to 1895. The open-air museum includes a former manor cooperage, an old village school and ethnographic exhibitions. This brings together several tangible starting points for exploring cultural history: the museum’s history, a former place of work, the village school and the exhibitions.
Easter and Christmas exhibitions with accompanying programmes are part of the museum’s tradition. If you would like to plan your stay around one of these seasonal events, check the event dates before travelling. Another collection piece can be seen at the Muzeum Moto & Velo: a 1905 Laurin & Klement L80 motorcycle. It is displayed with a sidecar and has been preserved in its original condition. Its year of manufacture and preserved configuration make this individual object a clearly defined subject for anyone interested in historic vehicle engineering.
Castle History and Sacred Buildings
A water fortress is documented at the castle site in Přerov nad Labem from the mid-13th century. Renaissance and Baroque alterations followed later. The Renaissance castle is surrounded by a moat, crossed by a stone bridge. This timeline offers a useful overview: the site’s history begins with the medieval fortress and continues through the later phases of renovation. The Baroque Chapel of the Holy Trinity is also located near the castle.
The Church of St. Vojtěch tells another story of architecture: it was built in the Baroque style in 1681–1682. Services are held there on Saturdays at 10:00 from May to October; please check the date before travelling. The Chapel of St. Vojtěch is a separate site. It was built in the early 19th century in the fields on the border between Přerov nad Labem and Mochov. There is a vaulted spring beneath the chapel. The church and the chapel thus offer different points of reference for sacred architecture: the dated Baroque church and the later chapel on the municipal boundary.
Přerovská hůra: Nature and Geology
For those who would like to explore a landscape feature as well as the buildings, Přerovská hůra offers a different area of interest. Přerovská hůra is one of three sections of the Polabské hůry Natural Monument. It contains abandoned small marl quarries, with limestone layers or limestone concretions. These geological features give the site a character of its own, clearly distinct from the history of the museum and the architectural monuments.
The Polabské hůry Natural Monument protects semi-natural dry grasslands and extensively mown meadows, from the lowlands to the foothills. Přerovská hůra is part of this protected area; the habitat types described apply to the natural monument as a whole. A walkable tourist trail leads to Přerovská hůra and continues for more than 250 metres from the road. This describes the continuation of the trail, not the walking time. For your plans, there are two clearly different interests to choose from: historic sites and collections, or a natural area with geological features.
