Immediately southwest of Písty lies Písečný přesyp u Píst, a dune site with shifting sand. It is one of the few areas in the Czech Republic where the sand is still visibly moving. The site covers 3.698 hectares. You can drive to within 250 metres of the site. As local conditions can change, it is advisable to check them before your visit.

Sand, Water and Landscape

The Písťák pond, a former branch of the Elbe, borders Písty; the Výrovka stream flows along the edge of the village. These features offer a clear distinction when choosing a landscape theme: moving sand is the focus at the dune site, while Písťák and the Výrovka bring water into the landscape.

You can tailor your visit to different interests without conflating the places: those interested in shifting sand substrates will find a specific point of interest at Písečný přesyp u Píst. The Písťák pond, by contrast, is a former branch of the Elbe, while the Výrovka flows along the edge of the village.

Church History, Literature and Painting

The former Church of the Holy Spirit was founded around 1595 and closed in the autumn of 1786. The chapel in Písty was built in 1868 as a replacement for the former church. The founding, closure and later construction of the chapel are therefore distinct milestones in the village’s history.

Písty is also connected with literature and painting. Bohumil Hrabal visited the village and mentioned it in his works. Adolf Branald came to Písty to visit his friend Emil Klimesch. The painter Hanuš Bohman often stayed in Písty and created numerous paintings there. These cultural connections thus range from the village’s earlier church history to literature and visual art.

Leisure and Events

The multifunctional sports field was built in 2024 and is currently used mainly for recreational sports activities. A children’s playground, created in 2023, has play equipment intended especially for the youngest children. The facilities cater to different interests: recreational sports on the field and play equipment for younger children.

Since 2012, TJ Sokol Písty has held the “Pístecký country slet” music festival at the sports ground in Písty near Nymburk. If you would like to combine your trip with the festival, check the event dates in advance.

The Písťák pond is known for large catfish and carp catches. If you plan to fish, check in advance whether access is currently possible.

The municipality of Písty also offers a virtual online tour of Písty.

Getting There and Finding Accommodation

Písty is connected to the bus network but is not directly on the railway line; a railway stop is not far away. If you plan to travel by train, check the specific connection before setting off.

The well-known “U Kyselů” restaurant, formerly “U Jeníků”, is a place where many tourists stop for refreshments on their way to Jezero near Sadská. Check whether it is open before visiting.

When looking for a holiday apartment, getting there can be an important factor in your decision: consider the bus connection and the railway line, which does not run directly through Písty, along with the nearby railway stop when planning your base for the night.
