Forest and Local History
Being surrounded by forests on all sides shapes the character of Lipník. The forests are ideal for mushroom picking and give a stay a clear connection to nature alongside the area’s history. If you would like to combine nature and history on a trip, you will find two distinct focal points here: the surrounding forests as a reason to go mushroom picking, and the commemorative sites with their respective historical themes. You do not have to choose just one theme; instead, you can shape your visit around whether the landscape or the area’s local and military history should take centre stage.
Evacuation and Reconstruction
The area’s history includes a major turning point: in 1940, Lipník was evacuated and used by the German army as a shooting range. After the Second World War, residents returned and began rebuilding the area. The memorial “Pomník Obětem 2. světové války” recalls the 1940 evacuation and the 1945 resettlement in its inscription. The two years refer to different stages: 1940 marks the evacuation, and 1945 the resettlement. This provides a timeline from the wartime upheaval to the post-war reconstruction.
Memorials in the Town Centre
The memorial “Pomník Obětem 1. světové války” stands on a lawn in the town centre. Its inscription commemorates those who fell in the First World War and bears the years 1914–1918. The memorial “Pomník vojákům Rudé armády” also stands in the town centre. The names Marvanyuk Kirill Vasilevich and Rastyalin Vasiliy Denisovich are recorded on it. The two memorials offer different historical points of reference: one focuses on commemorating the fallen and the period 1914–1918, while the names recorded on the other provide a specific detail. Together with the memorial to the evacuation and resettlement, they show different forms of remembrance in Lipník.
Military History at the Open-Air Museum
The Mordové rokle military history open-air museum is located within the cadastral area of Lipník and commemorates the history of the former military training ground from 1904 to 1991. This longer period offers a different perspective from the individual dates on the local memorials. Object V-521 houses a museum display commemorating the armies that were stationed or operated in the former Milovice–Mladá military area. The museum thus brings together two historical perspectives: the history of the former training ground and the remembrance of these armies. This distinguishes the museum’s exhibits from the memorials, whose inscriptions refer to specific events, periods or names.
Plan Your Visit
When planning your visit, it is important to distinguish between the grounds and the individual structures: the open-air museum grounds are freely accessible year-round. The individual structures, however, are accessible only during opening events; Object V-521 is accessible during regular opening events. If you are particularly interested in the exhibits in V-521, check the dates of the opening events in advance. This will help you distinguish between the year-round access to the grounds and visits to individual structures, which are only possible during events.
