Castle history, a brewery tour with tasting, and a cycling route through the village offer different ways to experience Tupadly during your stay. Three conditions are especially important when planning: the castle is not open to visitors, the brewery tour requires advance booking, and the 66.3 kilometres refer to the entire CKH11. This lets you weigh up local history, tasting and cycling as different priorities.
Castle and Chapel: Tupadly’s History on Site
The castle in Tupadly is a protected immovable cultural monument, but it is not open to visitors. So do not plan a visit to the castle’s interior. The history of the building can be understood through its development from a fortress to an early Baroque castle: Tupadly was first mentioned in 1242, and the fortress there is explicitly documented in 1371. The original fortress was converted into an early Baroque castle between 1636 and 1640. The later castle building therefore has a history of earlier fortifications behind it.
Another point of interest is the Chapel of St John of Nepomuk. It stands in the centre of Tupadly, on a small village square opposite the Baroque gate by the castle. The chapel dates from the 19th century and was restored at the beginning of the 21st century. The castle and chapel therefore represent different periods: the history of the fortress and its early Baroque conversion are followed by a building from the 19th century. Those interested in local history can find both the castle’s long development and a specific later period of construction and restoration here.
Brewery Tour and Beer Selection
Pivovar Tupadly offers tours with expert commentary through the production area, followed by a beer tasting. Advance booking is required. If you would like to include the tour in your stay, check the booking requirements in advance, as they may change. According to the brewery’s own historical records, its first mentions date back to 1735.
The beer selection includes two pale lagers: “Tupadelská 10°” costs 105 Kč per 1.5 l, and “Tupadelská 11°” costs 110 Kč per 1.5 l. There is also the dark lager “Tupadelská 12°” for 120 Kč per 1.5 l and the strong beer “Tupadelská 13°”, also for 120 Kč per 1.5 l. The selection therefore varies by beer style and strength; the prices shown are for 1.5 l in each case. The selection and prices may change.
Cycling Route and Sights in the Village
The CKH11 cycling route passes through Tupadly. Its stated length is 66.3 km, with a possible deviation of ±5%. This figure refers to the entire route, not just the section in Tupadly. The route is suitable for children. Tupadly can therefore be considered a stopping point on a longer cycling trip, while local history and the brewery tour offer other ways to spend your time.
Sights in Tupadly include a Baroque gate and a pavilion. The gate is also connected to the chapel in the description of the village: the chapel stands opposite it, on a small square in the centre. When planning, you can choose between exploring historic buildings, taking a brewery tour with tasting that requires advance booking, and cycling the CKH11, without assuming that each option takes the same amount of time.
