Uhlířská Lhota combines a history of charcoal kilns with cycling and hiking in the area around Uhlířská Lhota and Rasochy. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for your stay, you can choose between cultural history and nature as different points of focus. Rasochy also has an outdoor swimming pool.

History in the place name and traditions

The name Uhlířská Lhota derives from charcoal kilns. The last two charcoal kilns in the village were in operation until the start of the First World War. Between the two world wars, growing and drying medicinal herbs became well established in Uhlířská Lhota. The charcoal kilns can therefore be distinguished as part of the village’s older history, while the herbal tradition came later, between the wars.

The tradition of the Sjezdy Lhot a Lehot also began in Uhlířská Lhota: the first Sjezd was held there during the summer holidays of 1980. At these gatherings, the Lhotas take turns hosting, and the host dates vary. If you would like to plan a trip around a particular Sjezd, check its date and venue. Uhlířská Lhota also has a modern bell tower made of iron pipes.

Forests, cycling and distinctive landscapes

The area around Uhlířská Lhota and Rasochy is suitable for cycling and hiking. The forests around both villages are known for their abundance of forest berries and other wild fruits. If you are planning time outdoors, you can combine exercise with the distinctive woodland scenery.

On a cycling trip a few kilometres beyond Uhlířská Lhota, you can see the white horses of the National Stud at Kladruby nad Labem. If you plan this ride, check the route conditions locally. Another distinctive natural feature is the Dub Zmrzlých u Čížovky oak: planted around 1800, this English oak (Quercus robur) is protected for its aesthetic value and its role as a dominant feature of the landscape.

The outdoor swimming pool in Rasochy is surrounded by mature trees. Before visiting, check whether it is open and accessible to the public. This lets you consider a possible swimming break separately from cycling and hiking days, which can be planned independently.
