Trubínský vrch Natural Monument gives a stay in Trubín a clear focus on nature: across 4.12 hectares, rocky steppe meets rocks of the Komárov Complex. The village is also home to the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk and an archaeological find. This blend of geology, protected nature and local history makes Trubín especially interesting for travelers who want to plan their trip around specific discoveries.
Geology and Rocky Steppe
At the summit and on the southern slope, Trubínský vrch consists of basalt (diabase), part of the Ordovician volcanic Komárov Complex. The hill is one of the best exposures of volcanic rocks from this complex. Here, the rock type, geological age and its classification as part of a volcanic complex can all be considered together.
A typical, well-preserved rocky steppe with a rich variety of flora and fauna lies on the diabase. Trubínský vrch is a habitat for the highly endangered stiff garlic and Czech pasqueflower. The hill’s natural value is therefore shaped by both geology and botany: alongside the distinctive rock site is a habitat with two specifically named plant species.
Location and Regional Context
Trubínský vrch lies about 300 m northwest of Trubín, on the steep southern slope of Kazatelna Hill. The western part of Trubín lies within the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area; Trubín is also in the Barrandien National Geopark. The area’s context thus extends from an individual natural monument to a larger protected landscape area and a geopark.
A planning document published by AOPK ČR in 2024 states that public access to Trubínský vrch is subject to approval by AOPK ČR. If you plan to visit the natural site, confirm that approval is required before your visit.
Chapel, Archaeological Find and Festival
The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk is in Trubín; it was repaired in 2017. A proto-Eneolithic ditched enclosure with entrances, discovered in Trubín, offers a different perspective on the village’s past. The chapel and the find represent different aspects of local history: a place of worship and a specifically identified archaeological feature.
The annual traditional festival Pálení čarodějnic is held in Trubín. If you would like to plan your stay around it, check the date for the relevant year before traveling.
Plan Your Stay Around Your Reason for Traveling
When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide what you want your stay to focus on: the natural site combines geology and plant life, the festival offers an occasion tied to a specific date, and the chapel and archaeological find add to the local history. These priorities call for different advance planning: approval needs to be confirmed for a visit to the natural monument, while the festival date depends on the year of your trip.
