Záhoří combines a dated settlement history with a red-marked hiking trail that runs through Zádolí. If you would like to combine culture and exercise in one stay, you will find two distinct highlights here: historical connections to the area and a named route. For planning, you can consider the historical development and hiking as separate parts of your stay; before setting off, check the trail conditions and signage.

Historical Traces in Zádolí

On Müller’s map of 1720, Zádolí appears under the spelling “Sadoly”; this entry is currently considered the oldest known mention of the settlement. Jaroslav Schaller’s topography recorded 14 houses in Zádolí in 1788. For 1848, František Palacký lists 19 houses and 162 inhabitants. These three dates trace a progression from the settlement’s early appearance on a map to two later snapshots. The figures for the houses can be compared directly: five more are recorded in 1848 than in 1788; the figure of 162 inhabitants comes from Palacký’s account. This makes it possible to follow the area’s history through specific points in time.

Club History and Remembrance

In 1929, the “Josef Kajetán Tyl” amateur theatre club was founded in Zádolí. The club’s members founded a library with more than 300 volumes. The theatre club and library thus represent different forms of cultural activity: stage and books. Another specific connection to the area’s history is the war memorial in Zádolí. It was created by local stonemason František Tabulka and unveiled in 1936. The club’s founding and the memorial mark two distinct milestones of the 20th century: a cultural initiative in 1929 and a memorial unveiled in 1936.

Hiking Trail and Regional Context

The red-marked Sedlčany–Neveklov hiking trail passes through Zádolí. Its name and color marking help you distinguish this specific hiking connection from a general description of the surrounding area. The wider area around Neveklov is also important for hiking tourism; this regional reference covers more than the individual trail through Zádolí. When planning, you can therefore distinguish between the question of a route through the village and the wider area’s importance for hiking. Check the trail conditions and signage before travelling.

Traditional Events

The January and February 2025 edition of the community newsletter reports on a traditional neighborhood gathering in Zádolí in October, where children were able to hollow out and carve pumpkins together with their parents. It also describes a traditional Christmas tree lighting on December 1, with Christmas carols and mulled wine. The two events bring different seasonal touches: carving pumpkins together in autumn, and songs and mulled wine at the Christmas tree in December. If you would like to plan a trip around one of these events, check the latest event dates in advance.

For getting around the wider area: from Neveklov, Benešov, the administrative center, is about half an hour away by bus. This is an approximate journey time; check the bus connection for your specific travel date.
