Křivsoudov brings together the late-medieval Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, other historic traces in the town, and the landscape of the nearby Želivka Reservoir. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Křivsoudov, you can start by choosing between two interests: the town’s architectural heritage or the surrounding landscape. The town hall’s coat of arms, the castle ruins and the Černý potok flowing through Křivsoudov make these options tangible.
Church, coat of arms and castle ruins
The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was built as a fortified Gothic church at the end of the 13th century. The same church contains a Renaissance crypt belonging to the Střela z Rokyc family. Two different historical classifications thus come together in one building: the Gothic church and the burial place described as a Renaissance crypt. For a culture-focused stay, this offers a single point of historical interest, where the building’s history and the funerary monument are equally significant.
The town hall adds another aspect of the town’s history. Its façade bears the town’s coat of arms, which Křivsoudov has used since the second half of the 14th century. This date refers to the coat of arms’s use, providing a separate historical reference point alongside the church’s date. Parts of the outer wall and courtyard wall, as well as a northern earthwork, survive on the castle grounds. Here, the focus is on sections of wall and traces in the earth, rather than another coat of arms or church building.
Křivsoudov’s road bridge, on the road between Alberovice and Čechtice, is another tangible example of local architecture: it spans an unnamed stream. An older photograph of the bridge shows the year 1848. This historical image adds another detail to the themes of the church, town coat of arms and castle ruins, without reducing the bridge to just one type of monument.
Landscape and getting there
The Želivka Reservoir is a prominent feature of the landscape around Křivsoudov. The Černý potok, which flows through the town, also feeds the reservoir. The stream thus provides a direct link between Křivsoudov and the body of water; the reservoir landscape is a distinct focus alongside the town’s architectural heritage. When choosing the theme of your trip, you can therefore decide whether you are more interested in historic buildings or the surrounding landscape.
Křivsoudov is accessible via the D1 motorway. Before setting out, check your route and current road conditions. This lets you take the general road connection into account without overlooking changing conditions along the way.
Event programme with a year-specific reference
The 2025 Day of Czech History in Křivsoudov included historic military camps with guided tours. A family quiz on Czech history with eleven stations was also planned. These examples show two different programme items: guided presentations about historic camps and a quiz with a set number of stations. They refer to the 2025 edition; if you are considering a later edition when planning your trip, check its dates and programme separately.
You can compare which of these aspects matters most for your stay with the specific interests you have for your trip.
