On the 200-metre-long nature trail around the Troodos Visitor Center, you can see key features of the flora and geology of the Troodos National Forest Park. For your overnight stay, you can weigh up a location near Troodos Square against the surrounding villages. Several named trails and visitor facilities also give you practical starting points for planning your stay.

Getting your bearings at Troodos Square

The Troodos Visitor Center is 200 metres west of Troodos Square, next to the “Dolphin” Tourist Information Center. A paved footpath connects the visitor centre with the square. Troodos Square is accessible by private vehicle, and there is a car park at the square. Intercity buses from Lemesos (Route 64) and Lefkosia (Route BD39) also go there. Check current bus services before travelling.

Troodos Square has shops, restaurants, public toilets and hotels. Accommodation is available near the square and, especially, in the surrounding villages of Kakopetria, Pano Platres and Pelendri. When choosing where to stay, you can consider these village locations as well as the area around the Square. A campsite is located 500 metres east of the square, directly beside the main road. It is suitable for longer stays and offers improved facilities. Check its current availability if you plan to stay there.

The Troodos Visitor Center can accommodate groups of up to 40 people and has disabled access. Confirm current arrangements with the operator before your visit. A ten-minute film about the Troodos National Forest Park can be shown in the lecture and film hall.

The reception area of the Troodos Environmental Centre has an exhibition gallery and a film theatre with information about the geology, flora and fauna of the Troodos Mountains. A small botanical and geological nature trail is connected to the Centre, where you can observe various plants and rock formations.

Hiking trails and landmarks

The Atalanti Trail starts and ends at Troodos Square and loops around Chionistra through dense stands of black pines and Troodos junipers. According to the trail leaflet, an 800-year-old juniper tree stands along the route. The trail also passes an entrance tunnel to a chrome mine that has been out of operation since 1982. A drinking-water fountain is located three kilometres from the Atalanti Trail’s starting point, in the direction of Troodos Square. The Persephone Hiking Trail starts 150 metres south of the square, in the direction of the police station. The two hiking trails therefore have different starting points in relation to the Square.

The Troodos Square–Stavros tis Psokas cycling route also starts at the Square. It initially climbs westwards for about 2.5 kilometres, passes a junction on the left in the direction of Mount Olympos, and from there descends to the village of Prodromos. Check local conditions before setting out.
