Zapuntel can be explored through several distinct points of reference: a fast-ship connection, an easy island trail, historic church art, and nautical amenities. A Jadrolinija fast-ship service connects Zadar with the island of Molat and the ports of Brgulje and Zapuntel, and continues to the island of Ist. On Molat, a paved road connects Zapuntel with the island’s other inhabited settlements. The ship route and road connection represent different aspects of getting around: the route lists connections between islands and ports, while the road connects the inhabited settlements on Molat. Check the current fast-ship timetable before your trip.
Hiking from the harbor
The Vranač Trail is an easy route, suitable for runners and hikers of all fitness levels. It starts and ends at the harbor in Zapuntel, making it the starting and return point. The trail offers views of the sea and nearby islands. The route thus combines a clearly stated difficulty level and a fixed connection to the harbor with a scenic experience. Check trail conditions before setting out.
Church art and history
The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Zapuntel dates back to the 16th century. It houses statues of torch-bearing angels from the 18th century. The building and its furnishings therefore belong to different periods, a useful distinction for understanding the church art. Agustin Crivelari’s painting “Rođenje Kristovo sa svecima” is also associated with the parish church of Rođenja Blažene Djevice Marije in Zapuntel on Molat. The Croatian title can be rendered as “The Birth of Christ with Saints” and adds a distinct visual motif to the church-related points of interest.
Landscape and olive growing
Zapuntel is located beside a fertile field covering 22 ha. Olive growing is one of the local agricultural activities. The field and cultivation describe different aspects of the place: a specific landscape feature and an agricultural practice. On Molat, visitors can buy high-quality homemade olive oil and wine. Thus, the island combines an agricultural connection with culinary shopping, while olive growing itself is one of Zapuntel’s local activities.
Bay and marina
Zapuntel Bay offers sailors shelter and dining options. Dining options may change; ask about the current offerings in advance if they are important to your plans. Zapuntel is connected to Zapuntelska Luka (Porat), 2 km away, a marina on the coast of the Vir Sea. The bay and the marina are different nautical points of reference. For orientation, it is also useful to distinguish them from the harbor in Zapuntel, where the Vranač Trail starts and ends.
