Podglavica as a location
Podglavica is part of the Rogoznica coastal tourism area. This area is considered the municipality’s most intensive tourism zone and has a high concentration of accommodation and recreational facilities. The wider destination of Općina Rogoznica also encompasses landscape, cultural and nautical themes.
Landscape and nautical attractions in the wider destination of Općina Rogoznica
Rogoznica is characterised by a well-protected harbour, dense pine forest and the Lungo Mare seafront promenade. The Church of St John of Trogir dates from 1324. Marina Frapa is associated with nature and nautical tourism. Thus, the regional context offers distinct themes of harbours and marinas, forest landscape and a historic building with a clearly stated date.
The Rogoznica coastline stretches for more than 50 kilometres and includes bays, islets, pine forests, and pebble and rocky beaches. Zmajevo oko offers a different scale: the saltwater lake lies on the Gradina Peninsula and is surrounded by vertical cliffs 4 to 24 metres high. Its maximum recorded depth is approximately 15 metres. The landscape of Općina Rogoznica therefore encompasses both extensive stretches of coastline and the specific dimensions of a single lake.
In Rogoznica, Labirint Lavande is a town park with walking paths through lavender, while the open-air marine aquarium is listed as a visitor attraction. Marina Frapa offers berths, technical assistance for boats, charter services, event organisation, and leisure and wellness facilities. These provide distinct options to choose from: walks through lavender, a listed visitor attraction, and nautical and leisure activities.
Local history, festivals and cuisine
The Gospi od Kapelice pilgrimage in Rogoznica was recognised as intangible cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia in 2024. The historic centre is located on the small island of Kopara, which is connected to the mainland by an artificial causeway; it features old stone houses and narrow lanes. Together, these features reflect different historical connections: a religious tradition and an urban layout defined by its location and buildings.
The Ribarska fešta gives visitors a glimpse of local life through music, traditional cuisine and socialising by the sea. Rogoznica’s culinary tradition includes fresh fish and local specialities such as rogoznički brudet. Travellers interested in culture and food can therefore find distinct points of interest in a community-centred festival culture and a named dish.
Routes and active experiences
The Putem Diomeda cycling route starts in Dvornice and, after a turnoff to Punta Planka, continues towards Ražanj. The Brdo Movar hiking trail starts in Ražanj and leads to a French fort dating from 1860. The two routes differ in their mode of travel, starting point and stated destination. The Lozica swimming marathon attracts active visitors and those interested in sports tourism, adding a watersports connection to these themes.
Rogoznica is directly connected to state road D8, the Jadranska magistrala, which links Rogoznica with Šibenik and Split. In Rogoznica, visitors can also walk through pine forests to viewpoints and take trips to nearby islands and islets. The road connection, forest walks and island trips address different planning considerations within the wider destination of Općina Rogoznica.
