Lopar combines beaches and water sports with geological and archaeological themes. When planning your stay, you can consider these highlights separately: beaches and water, geology, trails or cultural history. This makes it easy to plan your time around your own interests.

Rajska plaža and Boat Trips

Rajska plaža is Lopar’s largest and best-known sandy beach, stretching 1.5 km. Leisure activities include swimming, beach volleyball and tennis, as well as pedal boats, kayaks, SUP, jet skis, banana boat rides and the Aquagan water slides. You can plan your beach day around the mix of swimming, ball sports and water activities you prefer.

Daily half-day glass-bottom boat trips offer another perspective. They travel through the waters around Lopar and to Goli otok and Grgur. The half-day duration can be factored into your daily schedule as a separate block of time.

Geology and Archaeological Traces

The Lopar landscape area is protected. The Geological Garden Lopar has 50 marked geological points featuring fossils, unusually shaped rocks and geological profiles. These different features offer a range of perspectives: fossils and profiles are also part of the geological story of the area, alongside its striking rock formations.

The archaeological site of Podšilo is home to a partially preserved Roman pottery kiln. Lopar is also home to the Epario educational trail, which is part of the Rab Archaeological (T)races project. The project links 34 information points through educational trails totalling around 40 km. The trails run through Lopar, as well as Kampor and Supetarska Draga; the approximate total length applies to this trail network, not just the Epario educational trail.

The project’s app works offline and is intended for walkers, cyclists and hikers. Check whether the app is available before your trip.

Mountain Biking

Lopar MTB 1 is a 26.2 km, moderately difficult mountain biking route with 468 m of elevation gain. The estimated ride time is 2 hours 45 minutes. On the return, the route follows the Premužić Trail and offers a view of the Velebit Channel. You can factor the ride time into your daily schedule as a separate block. As trail conditions can change, check them before setting out.

Maritime Heritage, Church and Cuisine

The Čovik i more Interpretation Centre was established to help protect, preserve and promote Lopar’s aquaculture and maritime heritage. Its four themed rooms focus on history, seafaring and fishing, island life, and traditional cuisine. Admission is free for all visitors; the centre is said to be open year-round. Check the opening arrangements before your trip.

The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is located near Lopar’s ferry port. It is mentioned in municipal records from the 14th century and contains a late-Romanesque wooden relief from the 14th century. The church therefore brings together two historical points of reference: its mention in the records and the relief.

Local cuisine has its own celebration, too: the Pumidorfest puts dishes made with local tomatoes in the spotlight and also includes a salsa-making competition for tourists. Dates and programme details may change. Check the latest event information before your trip.
