Biserujka Cave is located right next to Rudine, above Slivanjska Bay. For planning your outing, you can choose between a short educational trail and several significantly longer hiking routes. This lets you compare a cave visit and an easy walk with a longer route, rather than combining different trails into a single outing.
Biserujka Cave and the Educational Trail
The cave is equipped for tourist visits. This 110-meter-long karst formation is rich in stalactites and stalagmites. Biserujka has attracted tourists since the 19th century. The educational trail connects the cave with Slivanjska Bay. Allow about 30 minutes for the easy walk; it includes five educational panels. The beach at the bay can be reached on foot or by bicycle.
Hiking Trails: Short and Longer Stages
The Camino Krk passes through Rudine in the Municipality of Dobrinj. Its fourth daily stage is 21.4 kilometers long and runs from Omišalj to Čižići. The Biserujka Trail is a 17-kilometer hiking route from Omišalj via Rudine and back to Omišalj. Another route, Omišalj–Mirine–Rudine–Omišalj, passes by Biserujka Cave. The 17 kilometers of the Biserujka Trail and the 21.4 kilometers of the Camino daily stage are separate routes. By contrast, the approximately 30 minutes refers to the easy educational trail. Check current trail conditions before setting out on longer hikes.
Village and Landscape
Rudine’s well-preserved village architecture is connected with the former lives of farmers and fishermen. On the Biserujka Trail, you will encounter low-growing vegetation and dry-stone walls. The remains of Rudine’s historic harbor can also be found at Slivanjska Bay. These details complement the cave visit with local history and landscape features.
