The area of Draž lies at Croatia’s northeastern tip and encompasses the Danube, its old river channels and side arms. More than 400 hectares of fishing waters, named routes and cultural sites in Topolje and Batina offer different options for planning your trip. You can first decide whether to focus mainly on the waterside landscape, trails through the surrounding area or historic sites.

Danube Arms, Beach and Fishing

Organized fishing trips by boat on the Danube and its side arms are offered from Batina. If you plan such a trip, check the operator details again before travelling.

At the beach on Topoljskijski Dunavac in Draž, a large sandy beach and wooden walkways shape the shoreline. For seasonal facilities, it is advisable to check what is currently available before visiting. Piki Beach Bar is located by the village of Draž on the Danube side arm Topoljski Dunavac.

Routes and Landforms

The Baranjska planinarska obilaznica is considered the best-known hiking trail in the Draž area. Another route, Baranya’s Natural Trails: The „Surduci“, starts at the Veliki drumić pass („surduk“) in Draž and passes the Trojnaš viewpoint. The Surduci are steep, natural ravines carved into the terrain over centuries by rainwater.

The Šokac Embroidery Trail starts at Draž beach on the Old Danube Arm and passes rows of traditional wine cellars called Gatori. The named waypoints differ: on the Surduci route, it is the Trojnaš viewpoint; on the Šokac Embroidery Trail, they are the Gatori along the route.

Culture and History in Topolje

The Šokačka kuća in Topolje presents the tangible and intangible culture of the local Šokci people at the place where it originally developed. You can also explore the house with the game Eva i Stipa and an audio guide. The on-site presentation is therefore directly connected to the subject of this cultural site.

The Baroque church of Sv. Petra i Pavla near Topolje stands alone in an open field and was built in 1722. Prince Eugene of Savoy had it built out of gratitude to God for victory over the Turks. The church hosts the event Marijo, svibnja kraljice on the last Saturday in May, which is dedicated to preserving Baranja’s traditional church singing.

Batina: Memorial Site and Danube Waterfront

The Victory Monument at the Batina Battle Memorial Site was created by Antun Augustinčić in 1946. From a viewpoint above the Danube in Batina, you can see Croatia, Serbia and Hungary. The passenger pier is on the Danube waterfront in the centre of Batina.

The Panorama Bar in Batina is next to the Victory Monument and serves coffee, soft drinks and wines from Baranja winemakers. If you plan to stop there, check the opening hours in advance.

June Event

The Deer & Bike cycling event takes place every year in June in the Municipality of Draž and is organized by the Karašicka republika association. As the exact date may vary, confirm it before your trip.
