Perna brings together protected traces of its local history and two cycling routes that include the town on routes of different lengths. Anyone looking for accommodation in Perna can take both perspectives into account when choosing a destination: should the stay be shaped primarily by the history of the fortress and buildings, or are the length and duration of a cycling tour the deciding factors? The key details of the routes help clarify this question.
Fortified town and cultural heritage
In 1225, the fortified town of Perna received the privileges of a free royal town from King Béla IV. Its fortress stood on Gradina, a strategically important elevation overlooking the surrounding area. The remains of the old town of Pernika in Perna are protected cultural heritage. Thus, the town’s historical legal status, the fortress’s location and the surviving remains emerge as distinct facets of local history. The year 1225 anchors the privilege in a specific period; Gradina adds the topographical context to the story.
A traditional homestead and historic mills
Traditional homestead No. 21 is protected as a single residential and agricultural building. The house is believed to have been built in 1871. It has an elongated, rectangular shape; the two-storey building has oak-plank walls and a wooden gallery on the upper floor. The interior is divided into three sections. The floor plan and number of storeys describe its form, while the materials, gallery and internal layout show other aspects of the building. The classification as a residential and agricultural building and the division into three sections answer different questions: one classifies the house, while the other describes its layout.
Mlin na potoku Perna is also among the historic agricultural buildings in Perna. In addition, Perna is one of the places with fully preserved mill buildings. Alongside traditional residential and agricultural architecture, mills therefore represent a distinct aspect of the built heritage.
Cycling routes and road connections
Route 2 runs from Topusko through Ponikvari, Vorkapići, Perna and Poljani. It covers 20 km and takes approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. Route 6 runs from Topusko through Ponikvari, Poljani, Perna and Petrova gora; it is 38.9 km long and takes about 4 hours and 30 minutes. Route 2 is therefore the shorter option; Route 6 is almost twice as long and has an estimated duration of about twice as much. The time estimates are approximate. Route data may change if the route is adjusted, so check the current route before setting off.
The road connections can also be distinguished by their route and length: ŽC 3228 connects Topusko with Crni Potok via Perna and is 17.426 km long. LC 33080 connects Perna with Ponikvari and is 9.121 km long. These lengths describe the named roads; the cycling routes also provide approximate time estimates. Road routes and lengths may change if they are adjusted later.
