The ferry crossing from Split to Supetar takes 50 minutes; depending on operating conditions, the crossing time may vary. So check the connection again before travelling. In Supetar, historic sights meet trails across Brač and excursions on the water. If you are looking for a hotel in Supetar, it helps to consider the focus of your trip: would you like to spend more time exploring the buildings and the life of Ivan Rendić, choose a route across the island, or explore the surrounding area?

Heritage around the Old Town

Supetar’s parish church was built in 1604 on the foundations of an earlier basilica. A 6th-century early Christian mosaic is located nearby. The two historical features offer different perspectives: the church tells the story of a later period of construction, while the mosaic points to a much earlier chapter in the town’s history.

The Ivan Rendić Gallery is located in Supetar’s public library. It was founded to mark the 150th birthday of the sculptor. The Ivan Rendić Memorial Collection includes 20 sculptures, 50 original projects and designs, as well as numerous photographs and documents. The collection therefore includes both three-dimensional works and material that provides insight into designs and visual records. Exhibition displays may change; check what is currently on view before visiting.

The town cemetery also brings together several aspects of the cultural heritage. The Petrinović family mausoleum is a work by Tomo Rosandić. The remains of a 6th-century Roman villa rustica are also located at the cemetery entrance. Fourteen funerary monuments at the cemetery were created by sculptor Ivan Rendić (1849–1932). The cultural walk “Dan s Rendićem” passes through the oldest historic parts of the Old Town to places where Rendić left his mark, and ends at the cemetery. His grave and several of his works can be seen there.

Another historic landmark is the public bathhouse Banj: it was the first public bathhouse on the entire island of Brač and could accommodate 150 bathers.

Island routes and shorter trails

From Supetar, two long circular routes can be distinguished by their described routes and endpoints. The approximately 140-kilometre Via Brattia passes through Supetar, is signposted in both directions and can be started here. At 150 kilometres, Camino Brač is slightly longer, runs across the island, and starts and ends in Supetar. Those looking primarily for a start and finish point in Supetar will find one on Camino Brač; Supetar is listed as a possible starting point for Via Brattia.

Nearby, the five-kilometre circular Olive Trail passes through the olive groves above Mirca and continues to Prihodi. As trail conditions may change, check them before setting out. Another trail leads from Supetar towards Vidova gora and Trolokve, a place with three watering troughs. The specific route descriptions can help you choose between these options: the Olive Trail description gives its length, circular layout and route through the groves; the other description specifies the direction and names Trolokve as the destination.

Nearby, Prihodi is an old irrigation system historically connected with the water supply of Mirca. Together with the route of the Olive Trail, it offers a distinct perspective on the cultural landscape around Mirca. Vela Luka is one of the beaches in Supetar. This means different themes are available for your trip: historic buildings and sculptures in town, trails through olive groves nearby, and a beach destination in Supetar.

Excursions on the water

In Supetar, visitors can rent a boat and take trips along the Brač Channel to quiet coves. Availability and operating conditions may vary; check them before planning your trip. This adds another distinct way to spend time by the water to the choice between cultural sights and trails.
