Pital offers two different ways to experience its horse traditions: the Tope focuses on a display, while the Cabalgata is organized as a ride with broader participation. A sunflower field has also been described as a place to visit. For travel planning, it helps to choose your focus first: Would you like to see horses, take part in a riding event, or visit the field? If a specific event or a visit to the field is the reason for your trip, check the dates or visitor arrangements before booking.

Tope and Cabalgata: Display or Route

A cultural description from 2021 puts the Tope in Pital at an average of two to four kilometers. Its purpose is to give the audience an opportunity to admire the horses. Riders taking part present their best horses. Most are horses with a Paso Fino gait; these include Spanish and Iberian horses, Costa Rican horses with an improved Paso gait, and Criollo horses. The Tope thus focuses on the display and the horses presented in it.

The Cabalgata in Pital covers six to eight kilometers. As a counterpart to the Tope, it is designed for broader participation by riders and horses. The horses should be suited to the route and have stamina. On difficult terrain, the route may include rivers, streams, pastures, plains, and heavily muddy roads. For participants, both the distance and the possible terrain conditions are therefore relevant. These terrain types apply to difficult terrain; they do not necessarily describe every route.

The Boyeros Parade and Its Date

The Desfile de Boyeros de Pital has been celebrated for more than 29 years on the Sunday closest to the feast of Saint Anthony of Padua on June 13. The date is therefore based on a Sunday near the feast day and not automatically on June 13 itself. If you want to plan your trip around the parade, check the event details for the specific year before finalizing your hotel plans.

Planning a Visit to the Sunflower Field

A 2024 report describes Campo de Girasoles Pital as a two-hectare field with various sunflower varieties. It gives approximately February 17 to April 15 as the period for a visit. If you want to include the field in your trip, check in advance whether a visit will be possible during your stay. This way, the reported period remains a planning guide and is not mistaken for a guarantee for your specific travel dates.

Choose Your Reason for Visiting First

Your reason for traveling can be a useful starting point when choosing a hotel in Pital. The route lengths make the difference between the Tope and the Cabalgata clear, but they say nothing about how long a visit lasts. If you are traveling for the Boyeros parade, the details for the relevant year are essential; for the sunflower field, check whether a visit is possible during your travel dates.
