The Tianjin Ancient Culture Street lies on the west bank of the Haihe River. Its buildings are shaped by the architectural styles of the Ming and Qing periods (1368–1911), and at its center stands the centuries-old Tianhou Temple.

Temple Traditions and the City’s Early History

The Tianhou Temple embodies the enduring Mazu tradition in northern China: the worship of the sea goddess. This brings a specific place and a religious tradition together on Ancient Culture Street. The street is also considered the birthplace of Tianjin; the city’s earliest urban settlements first took shape there. Those interested in the city’s origins will find not only Ming- and Qing-era architecture here, but also a tangible connection to its early history.

Waterscape and Memorial Hall

Tianjin Water Park is the city’s largest comprehensive park. Its layout consists of three lakes and eleven islands. The water area covers 757,600 square meters, while the landscaped green area covers 350,000 square meters. The figures distinguish between the water and green areas, giving the park landscape a clear sense of scale. The water area is just over twice as large as the green area. Comparing the two measurements, water therefore covers more area than green space.

The Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao Memorial Hall is located in the park’s scenic area. Its permanent exhibition is divided into three sections: a main hall, a full-scale 1:1 replica of Xihua Hall in Zhongnanhai, Beijing, and an aircraft hall. The memorial hall is a national first-class museum. The aircraft hall displays Il-14 No. 678, which the Soviet government presented to Premier Zhou Enlai. Individual exhibits and the display status of the aircraft may change.

Historic Neighborhoods and a Ride on a Giant Ferris Wheel

The Five Avenues area encompasses 436 historic Western-style buildings. In Heping District, it is one of the prominent commercial districts. The Italian-Style Area has a different historical connection: it was once the center of the Italian concession and has a history of more than a century. The two descriptions emphasize different aspects—here, the number of historic buildings; there, the area’s former role.

The Tianjin Eye is a giant Ferris wheel on Yongle Bridge. One complete rotation takes 30 minutes. This time refers to the ride itself and provides a concrete guide when planning time for the attraction.

The Haihe Water Bus also combines sightseeing with public transportation. A municipal notice dated May 26, 2026, gives the route as Jinwan Wharf to Miansan Wharf. Check current service information before your trip, before including this connection in your plans.
