Yinchuan offers travelers different ways to experience its culture and landscape: the imperial necropolis of the Xixia dynasty, Haibao Pagoda, and the wetland at Mingcui Lake. When looking for hotels in Yinchuan, you can first consider whether tomb architecture, a single protected cultural site, or environmental education and landscape conservation should be your focus. This way, trip planning begins with choosing what interests you rather than with a simple list of attractions.

Xixia Imperial Tombs: Necropolis and Landscape

The Xixia Imperial Tombs are the imperial necropolis of the Xixia dynasty. The complex includes nine imperial mausoleums, 271 subordinate tombs, a northern architectural complex, and 32 flood-control structures. These designations reveal the different layers of the site: alongside the imperial mausoleums are the subordinate tombs, while the northern complex and flood-control structures add further built features to the burial grounds. If you want to view historic sites as complete complexes, this layout offers more than a look at individual tomb monuments.

The Xixia Imperial Tombs are located in Yinchuan, in front of the Helan Mountains, overlooking the Yinchuan Plain and facing the Yellow River. The mountains, plain, and river thus offer different points of reference for understanding the landscape. This setting adds a geographical context to the view of the necropolis’s internal layout.

The Xixia Imperial Tombs Visitor Area

A 2025 description of the visitor area distinguishes two sections separated by National Highway 110. The western section is the Xixia heritage area, with on-site presentations of the ruins. To the east is a cultural and tourism service center that includes the Xixia Imperial Tombs Museum, a digital cultural creation experience center, and a visitor center. The west–east layout thus separates the section with presentations of the ruins from the facilities listed in the center.

Haibao Pagoda: A Protected Cultural Site

Haibao Pagoda, also known as the North Pagoda, is located in Haibao Pagoda Temple in Xingqing District, Yinchuan. In 1961, it was designated a National Key Cultural Relic Protection Site. If you encounter the name North Pagoda while planning your trip, it refers to the same Haibao Pagoda. As a single named monument, it is on a different scale from the multi-part Xixia necropolis complex.

Mingcui Lake: Wetland and Environmental Education

Mingcui Lake National Wetland Park lies east of Yinchuan in Xingqing District and covers 589 hectares. Mingcui Lake is a National Wetland Park and a nationally important wetland. In November 2023, it was added to the list of nationally important wetlands; it is also rated as a national 4A-level tourist attraction. The park uses ecotourism and environmental education to promote wetland conservation and restoration. This offers a distinct way to experience Yinchuan: through the connection between wetlands, conservation, and education. If you want to include nature and landscape in your trip planning, this focus offers a concrete point of reference.
