Nearby Red Beach showcases Panjin’s wetlands, with reeds, expansive tidal flats and red seepweed plants. Museums and the Liaohe Stele Forest offer a different focus: the written, artistic and cultural history of the Liaohe region. This makes it possible to plan a visit to Panjin from two distinct perspectives—its natural environment and cultural history.
Wetlands at Red Beach
Red Beach is located in Zhaoguanghe Town in Panjin’s Dawa District. Its area is stated to be just over 200,000 mu. Reed beds, expansive tidal flats, numerous waterbirds and red seepweed plants shape the wetlands and give this excursion its distinctive character.
In 2024, the Red Beach National Scenic Corridor included a visitor center, boardwalks, covered rest areas, viewing platforms and toilets. Electronic tickets could then be purchased via WeChat, Douyin and vending machines. Before visiting, check which ticket options are currently available.
A seasonal recommendation from 2020 mentions boat trips through reed beds on Wolong Lake as a way to experience the wetlands. Check in advance whether these trips are still offered.
Stele Forest and the History of Writing
In Panjin’s municipal area, the Liaohe Stele Forest focuses on the history of writing and calligraphy. Its exhibition area displays 700 stele monuments and 1,064 inscribed stone slabs. The examples range from early script and oracle bone inscriptions to calligraphy from various dynasties. The Liaohe Stele Forest is described as China’s only stele forest with an unbroken history; its complex of buildings in an ancient style is considered the largest of its kind in Northeast China to date.
The Liaohe Stele Forest Park is oval-shaped, surrounded by water and covers a total of 167 hectares: 100 hectares of land and 67 hectares of water. In 2026, the Liaohe Wetland Park and the Liaohe Stele Forest Park were named as two key points of reference for tourism development in Shuangtaizi District.
Museums, Art and Regional Cuisine
According to a description from January 2026, the Liaohe Folk Museum in Panjin houses almost 10,000 folk culture exhibits that illustrate the millennia-old cultural history of the Liaohe River region. A 2026 tourism recommendation also names the Liaohe Art Museum, the Liaohe Museum of Couplets and Calligraphy, and the Liaohe Folk Museum as places to experience art.
Guangsha Art Street in Xinglongtai District brings together galleries and artists’ studios, along with regional creative shops, food and drink venues, and facilities such as a library and cultural center. A 2025 tourism feature reported that more than 100 original artists from different parts of China, as well as South Korea, Russia and Japan, were based there.
At the opening event for Panjin’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Hall in June 2026, wood carvings by the Sun family of Panjin, reed paintings from Panjin, button art by the Wu family of Panjin and opera masks were displayed. Heritage practitioners demonstrated traditional techniques. The hall’s concept is to bring together the city’s cultural heritage resources, intangible cultural heritage workshops and folk museums, combining exhibitions, interactive experiences, the sale of cultural creations, academic exchange and cultural tourism.
As a regional guide, a tourist route published in 2026 runs from Liaohe Old Street in Yingkou, via the Liaohe Folk Museum in Xinglongtai District, to the Red Beach Scenic Corridor in Dawa District. The museum is paired with Liaohekou fishermen’s cuisine.
