Those considering a trip to Fushun can choose from a range of cultural and landscape themes in the wider region. The places featured here are located in this broader area. They can help you decide whether to focus on memorials, museums, or green spaces and river landscapes.

Pingdingshan Memorial

The Pingdingshan Massacre Memorial Hall preserves the site of a massacre of Chinese civilians during the Second World War. Five main areas make up the complex: the themed sculpture “Destruction,” an exhibition hall, the hall at the site of the Pingdingshan Massacre, the monument to the compatriots who were killed, and a stele garden featuring testimonies from survivors. The hall containing the victims’ remains displays more than 800 remains excavated at the site. The grounds cover 16.5 hectares, and the buildings occupy just under 8,000 square meters.

Museums and Historical Themes

The Fushun Coal Mine Museum uses film, phantom projection and floating stereoscopic imaging, among other technologies. The official municipal tourism list dated October 10, 2025, lists it as a national 3A tourist attraction. The Fushun Lei Feng Memorial Hall offers a different perspective: dynamic high-tech scenes and artistic illustrations portray Lei Feng’s life and the significance of the Lei Feng spirit today. Visitors can therefore choose from different cultural themes and forms of presentation.

The Fushun War Criminals Management Centre was officially opened to visitors from China and abroad in 1986, with approval from the State Council, as the former site of the re-education of war criminals. The exhibition museum at the former site covers about 3 hectares of land, with buildings occupying about 1 hectare. It comprises an exhibition on the history of the re-education of Japanese war criminals, a special exhibition on the re-education of the last emperor, and historical remains from the former site.

Parks, River Landscapes and Views

Gaoershan Park is located in the northwest of Fushun’s urban area. At 230 meters, Gaoershan is the highest point within the urban area. At its summit stands a Liao dynasty octagonal, nine-tiered pagoda with closely projecting eaves, regarded as an important cultural landmark of Fushun. From the summit, visitors can look out over the city, with the Hun River winding through the urban area.

In Xinfu District, Labor Park was established in 1925. Its 32 hectares include 15.9 hectares of mountainous terrain, 6 hectares of water, and 9.5 hectares of level ground. In Dongzhou District, Wetland Cultural Park offers a different landscape: it covers 23.4 hectares, including 7.8 hectares of paved areas and 15.6 hectares of green space. The park features an ecological garden system with numerous tree species, as well as a variety of colors and layers of vegetation.

Shili Waterfront Park stretches along both banks of the urban section of the Hun River, from Tianhu Bridge in the east to Gebu Bridge in the west. Its shoreline is about 13.8 kilometers long. Large lawns, small squares, benches and fitness equipment provide amenities for visitors’ recreation.

Moon Island Ecological Park is on the southern bank of the Hun River, at the confluence of the Guchengzi River and the Hun River, and has eleven landscape bridges. On Moon Lake, the “Water Show” musical fountain combines sound, light, water, electricity, lasers, a water screen and film in an integrated art installation.

Cultural Heritage from Fushun

Fushun amber carving is also among the region’s cultural themes: it was added to China’s national list of intangible cultural heritage in 2014. Along with the museums and memorials, this craft heritage broadens the picture of Fushun beyond individual exhibition sites.
