At Fengling Park, landscaped grounds, recreational activities, and historic details come together. Fengling Park is a good focal point for a trip around Hebi. The wider region also offers architectural history, a memorial museum, and local specialties. To plan your visit, first decide whether you are mainly interested in parkland, culture, or getting your bearings in the region.
Fengling Park: Landscapes and Recreational Activities
Fengling Park covers 81.4 hectares. On July 20, 2012, following an assessment by a panel of experts, it was upgraded to a provincial forest park. Its design distinguishes between the park’s two sides: a lake was created in the east by excavating the land, while the ground was raised and planted with trees in the west. The park is considered an ecological garden combining recreation, sightseeing, ecological protection, and science education.
In the southern part of the western hill are an observation platform and the landscape features “枫桥夜泊” and “踏雪寻梅.” Ornamental pear trees, plum trees, and nandina, among others, have been planted there. The seasonal highlights vary: flowers bloom in spring, trees provide shade in summer, red leaves glow in autumn, and wintersweet blooms in winter. A stele bearing a poem is also permanently kept in Fengling Mingxuan.
The park’s described areas also include play and animal attractions. During renovations in 2023, benches, children’s play equipment, and table tennis tables were added. Fengling Park Zoo keeps more than 100 animals from 30 species, including tigers, lions, bears, and sika deer. The Furong amusement area has more than 20 rides, including a high-thrill ride and bumper cars. If these attractions are important to your plans, check current visitor arrangements in advance.
Architectural History and Culture Nearby
The Li Shangshu Residence is located in Dahu Community. It is more than 500 years old and is known for its intricate wall reliefs and traditional timber construction. Its architectural features include dark-tiled roofs, ceramic roof ornaments, and a structure of four beams and eight pillars. Dahu Community is designated a national-level traditional village and a provincial-level historical and cultural village. This adds the context of the community to a visit focused on a single historic building.
A series of events at the residence featured Shehuo performances, demonstrations of iron-flower fireworks, and other cultural events. If you would like to include such events in your travel plans, check specific event dates. The Shilin Military Conference Site is one of the main attractions in the Shilin Scenic Area.
The Liu-Deng Army Memorial Museum is located in the wider region. Its exhibition space covers 1,500 square meters; the second floor houses the themed exhibition “The Liu-Deng Army in Hebi.” A 2022 description also mentions Zoumatang Lane, about 700 meters long, in Shancheng District: built in the style of the Ming and Qing dynasties, it connects to Jishan Park. The museum and lane offer different points of interest: a themed exhibition on one hand and a historic street on the other.
